Question Re: May 10 and 11th run?

Actually, now that this is the case, I'm thinking of going up to check on Camp Dick (gateway to Coney Flats) tomorrow for lunch break.

If anyone knows for sure that it is either still closed or snow covered (I don't think it's still covered), or if the majority doesn't want to go there, please let me know ASAP.

What you think?

steven

p.s. Of course, Lefthand Would be great too. I'm just not so sure about Carnage. I've never done it.
However, to get Chef out on the trail with us for a while, I'd at leat walk along and record you guys doing it if you think it wouldn't be right for Sandi.

Re: May 10 and 11th run?

Actually according to Don (COTTORA) not the other one! Bill Moore is open but the Clear Creek Ranger says we'll only be able to get 2 miles up and have to turn around and come back. (Keep in mind though, the rangers are given run of the mill Cherokees)

May 11th - Bill Moore Lake - TTORA Forum

It's up to you guys, 2 miles isn't that bad. There's also Mills Creek out there.

Molly added in the same thread that we may run into the same issues on Spring Creek as it tops out at over 9K with lots of tree shade.

I know last week some of the COTTORA folks ran Sevenmile too, a little farther North, but that's one I'd like to do again and get through.

Slaughterhouse is cool too, I can't see us having the issues we had last time out there with the snow. When Eric and I went down to China Wall it all looked pretty clear down in that area.

Athena, can you go check the gates and see if they are open? Anything but Left Hand, sorry Chef, I don't really care for it.

turns out the maps are useless Bill Moore is closed

all of the trails at about 8,000+ are going to be hit or miss, we need to go lower in elevation or farther south.

Slaughterhouse maybe passable now, as well as Spring Creek
I agree we just went to open a few trails today and at 9,000 ft elevation there were still about 4 foot drifts atleast up to the headlights. We just got in... I'll pm you the story tomorrow... or call you it was awful...we did get lee-way for the summer on a trail that hasn't been offroaded in years...very cool !

I was told by the guy who's father made these trails that Bill Moore Lake is always last to open. The highest elevation is at 11,000 absolutely impassible this time of year. Like I said before the top of Red Elephant was impassible in June of last year...I think we have to wait... believe it or not we're very close to the continental divide. Left Hand Canyon or Slaughter House would be cool....I'm down for either..
Mentioning Spring Creek...Bill goes up that all the time and says that as of today there is about 3.5 miles that are passable. All hardcore obstacles are bypassed and there are two very cool interest points. He also mentioned Levenwirth Mine off of Guenella pass...so worse case scenario we could do both
