How can I find out where the trails are? I'm sure there is a book with descriptions and trail ratings. Any suggestions? I know people are goin up AF canyon, and Mineral Basin, etc. How do I find these places, and more? Help, I want to go play.
Thanks,
Kathie

I'm not from Utah, but you could probably contact the Utah Department of Tourism online and find some information fairly quickly, if they are public trails.

Downtown Moab right in the center of town is a visitor center where they sell maps. But north of there @ 1 block on the west side of the street is "Back of Beyond Books" and they have an unlimited pick of maps for biking, 4WD, hiking, etc...not to mention some great books!

What part of utah? There's a ton of good trails and resources just help me narrow it down.
I have a pretty good book for Moab, but I live north of Salt Lake, and am lookin for the Wasatch Front/Uintahs/Nebo area.

The Uintahs on the Wyoming side have some epic dirt roads with lots of little side 4x4 trails. You can really get out there - have your own trout lake if you want. Skyline is a fun day trip in northern Utah. There's a great road up and over mount timpanogus in Provo and Sundance, TONS of roads on the Salisbury range, and lots of fun to be had at and around Smith and More house. Go to B&N or Boarders and pick up one of those state atlas maps. Dirt routes, 4x4 trails, and back-ways are clearly outlined. HAVE FUN... I'm jealous.

Hi, here is a link to a bunch of Utah specific trail books. Scroll on down and the Northern Region one is the one you want. We've found as others have said that these are just a starting point. For example all of the ones around Price have tons of trails to explore that I found by zooming in on the electronic topo maps using the listed trails as a starting point.

Re: Trails in Utah
There are a bunch out here by Dugway. If you come down like your going into the gate but turn left onto a dirt road.. there are a few tails that branch off that road... there are some wild horses roaming around that area.. really cool to see.
