Do you have to know how to swim? I suck at swimming. Sink like a rock.

Might catch hell for saying it, but it is pretty amazing how little swimming you do when scuba diving. Some would argue that this only applies to scenic-type diving and not wreck diving, or whatever... But my point is that I don't consider myself a good swimmer either, however with a B/C I don't really have to be. I am way more nervous snorkeling than scuba diving.

But you should defiantly be comfortable in the water. Like don't be freaked out thinking Jaws is going to appear anytime.

Yeah, I totally agree there. My wife got me into it just last year. She really had to pull my arm, since I don't swim that great. But I took the YMCA OW class, which is a bit more drawn out than the others... This was good, helped me to get past my initial fears, etc. Also doesn't hurt that wifey is a cert. rescue diver. I think a lot of people don't dive for various reasons, but for anybody thinking about it, imho if you find an experienced partner and take your time learning, it is an awesome and surprisingly easy thing to do.. I am really glad that my wife urged me to do it! Can't wait for the next vacation now..
It's definately a great sport to share with a spouse or girlfriend. Me and my girlfriend just booked a 7 day live a board on the Peter Hughes Yacht in Belize. We're not going until I get back from Iraq in May. I will post pics and info when we return.
about 5000 dives here
Local Haole boy from Maui I was a instructor for some 15 years mostly on Maui & Lanai so for those who know Cathedrals that was my backyard so used to have to dive that 6 days a week to rub it in heheehheeh
I also worked on Utila for a year teaching and did some private work in Chuuk
but recently moved the mainland ! I am homesick for the islands
biggest best memorable dive was something nobody gets to do and that was to dive and take photos on the USS Arizona
