Yakima hitch bike rack?

I just placed an order for my FJ Cruiser. I should get it in May. This is my first new car and I am really excited. Does anyone know if Yakima's hitch mounted bike racks fit with the spare tire on the back of the FJ? Specifically, the SlickRoc 4?

Thanks.

Re: Yakima hitch bike rack?

I've got the Yakima Kingpin 2 Hitch Rack, and as you can see by the picture, clears the spare tire just fine. I think the SlickRoc is the upper level equivalent of the Kingpin (don't quote me)

Works great and also folds down to allow opening of rear door.

Re: Yakima hitch bike rack?

Hands down the best hitch rack for mountian bikes is the Thule T2. Those top tube clamp styles either damage the top tubes or will not work with small frames/FSR type bikes.

Here it is on my old 4Runner... it is now on my my FJ.

Folds up neatly and out of the way when not in use:

is this the Saris you speak of? Looks like the same idea as a T2 which should be just fine. I do have a 2 bike extension I use on my T2 so i can carry 4 bikes behind the FJ.

Re: Yakima hitch bike rack?

There are also pictures on a thread here somewhere of the Thule Trailblazer hitch rack which clears the spare AND opens up to the right so that you can get into the FJ cargo area without having to take your bikes off. For me the extra plus is the ski attachment that you can buy with it. Rack locks into your hitch, and also has decent locks for all 4 bikes. yes, the whole set up is about $600 bucks. I am getting 15% off from my local bike shop... not great, but something.

Re: Yakima hitch bike rack?

I've got a Thule hitch mount (expressway, parkway or something like that). It clears w/ room to spare. If I had to do it over again, I'd look more at the T2--I just don't like the frame contact as the bikes hang across the bars.

Re: Yakima hitch bike rack?

I have the Yakima Hookup 2. Works great, don't have to remove any wheels and doesn't touch the frame.

Folded down, I can open the back no problem. It's folds up out of the way when not in use. And, it has an extender to add 2 more bikes, for a total of 4.

I got it at REI w/ my 20% off membership and dividend last year, so it wasn't too bad.
