Couldn't get an easier shot, what a douche, he should have dropped it with a broadhead right through the heart so it wouldn't suffer.
an arrow will only penetrate so deep though. when bow hunting you are usually in for a chase. my buddy and i were going to get our turkeys this year with bows or an air rifle but didnt get around to it.

Wow! You guys are bent out of shape for nothing. That was a very clean kill shot. Look behind him as he's getting up between the 2 trees that form a V at 37-38 seconds into the video. You can see the moose is down and the paddles are visible. There's no mention in the video that he isn't hunting for meat. Granted that is a beautiful bull and probably tastes not so yummy. I hunt for meat and I'd rather take a specimen like this with a camera. Take it easy on the d!ckheading/douchebagging - name calling in general. As stated, there are many responsible hunters out there and I'd say this guy is one of them. Taking a bull that size with a bow requires a distance separation which I would venture to say, not many of the people on this forum have the balls to maintain. But this guy did, which speaks volumes towards his responsibility to the animal. Rant over.

I totally agree with peoples hunting rights, they'll go right before my gun rights if the Hillary/Obama crowd has their wishes.
I must be missing it, but I just watched that video over and over, in particular around your time frame mentioned, still don't see a dead Moose. And, if he is dead, why are they moose calling?

Man, that's superhard getting a Turkey, and with a bow, you're the man with that kill. I've only seen 1 Wild Turkey in all my years in the woods, drank lots of it though.

I agree it is difficult to see and I should have made it clear that only the paddles are visible, not the moose proper. I can only assume that they are checking for response from the animal with the grunts. When in doubt, a bull moose is not an animal that you walk up to and check its pulse. Also, any hunter (whether hunting for meat or the bones on its head) would have gone crazy tracking that critter if it wasn't down. You can bet your life that a broadhead through the neck would leave a blood trail that wouldn't quit. These guys are letting the adrenaline rush subside and making damn sure the moose is dead before they walk up to it. I wish I had a screen capture tool to circle where the paddles are visible, but I don't so you'll have to keep looking. Again, they are visible between the 2 trees that form a V just to the hunters left (viewers right). Edit: I just watched it again and maybe the confusion is from the fact that the hunter is getting up about 20 feet in front of the moose. So look back a ways and the tan spots between the 2 trees are the paddles.
Re: This is why you don't shoot a moose in front of you
So where is the line drawn on what animal is ok to kill? I mean everyone here would kill a rat/mouse if it got in your house. Maybe a racoon if it keept getting in your trash. A wolf or coyote if it got in your property. Call someone to kill a Mountain Lion if it was in your neighbor hood. I personally agree that video is wrong, but thats just a personal opinion. Bit its funny that the more cute the animal is the more wrong most people think it is to kill. If that had been a big ugly wild boar everyone wouldnt be so freaked out.
Im German eating rabbit is a big part of my culture , MOST people in the states freak out when I tell them I eat cute lil bunnies.

Re: This is why you don't shoot a moose in front of you
There is nothing wrong or illegal with what he did.(shooting the moose). He is properly licensed for the state or province he was hunting in. He's got more balls than me for being that close to it. This was shown on the Outdoor Channel a few weeks ago. It was shot by Dwight Schuh, a very experienced bowhunter.
Attilla, alot of times when hunting after an animal has been hit, they will make a call to try and get it to calm down and not go so far so the tracking will be easier.
Re: This is why you don't shoot a moose in front of you
The only way that moose would have stopped dead in his tracks would have been a brain shot or one that severs the spinal chord at the base of the skull, a heart/lung shot on any moderate to large game will still require at least a minute(more like 3-8 depending on the exact location) before it bleeds out and goes brain dead
