LOTS of Billy Bobs witnessed in NH over the last month and a half.
The best part is a lot of them drink heavily while hunting - then kill the deer or whatever for fun - doing nothing with the meat.
Disgusting, imo
What kind of a comment is that? Were you with people that were doing it? Because thats not very smart either. It definitely not on the news everywhere because I live here and would have seen it. I hunt and almost NEVER see others in the woods. Id like to know where all the people drinking heavily and hunting are... If your from NH than not a great thing to be saying about your state. If your not, than Im not sure where that came from...

Hard to call hunting a sport when half involved don't know they are participating.
That's about the most ignorant statement I've ever heard...
First off, animals don't "know"...all animals understand survival of the fittest/foodchain better than any human, they are truly hyper-vigilant, but that is all.
As for the definition of sport, it says nothing about two-party consent or even two-party participation (although 1b cetainly implies two-party participation!):
Main Entry: SPORT
Function: noun
Date: 15th century
1 a: a source of diversion : recreation b: sexual play c (1): physical activity engaged in for pleasure (2): a particular activity (as an athletic game) so engaged in

Re: This is why you don't shoot a moose in front of you
For those that don't think that Moose is dead, regardless of whether you see it in the video or not, you are just showing your naiveness. I am a hunter of many creatures and one thing I have learned (as most successful and ethical hunters already know) is that animals, unlike humans, have no concept of when they are already dead. Animals only die when their bodily functions simply stop working. If that moose had been a human, he/she most likely would have fell over, cried out in pain, knowing the inevitable was soon going to occur. However the moose reacted like most moose (they are one of the more aggressive creatures - they have little fear of anything) he heard and saw a threat simultaneous to a sting in his chest...he charged the threat to show he was not scared and then with his adrenaline rush he fled the immediate area...very typical reaction.
As far as the extremely close shot everyone is all goo-goo about...
The hunter had very limited options. He actually put himself in danger (by choice) so that his arrow would not be deflected by all the branches/trees/brush that you see in front of him, and thus possible wound the animal. He did eactly the right thing. If he had had a rifle he might have been able to shoot from further away (but then again that is why some of use hunt with bows). While a broadside double-lung/heart shot is ideal, he took the next best available shot when the target was clear...straight into the front body cavity/heart/internal organs. Moose hunting usually occurs in marshy, wet areas, in the Fall rut. Moose are not creatures you want to wound, they can run forever, and an angry moose is equivalant to an angry bear, so a premium shot is vital. After any shot of an animal it is very prudent to wait at least 20 min in case it was not an immediate kill shot so that the animal finds a nice comfortable "bed" and goes to sleep.
Every state requires hunters to pack the meat out (except for some inedable animals), some require you to pack the meat out before you take the hide and antlers. Think about that when your 10-15 miles out on foot and you now have 400 pounds of meat, and a 100 pound head/antler. Your hard work is rewarded by the feasts you and your family will be enjoying for the next year! Moose meat is one of the tastiest and most desirable of all of the big game in North America. I guarantee that animal is packaged up in someones freezer, being enjoyed on a frequent basis.
All this talk makes me want to go thaw out some nice elk steaks and throw them on the grill...

Thanks for giving us the straight info on hunting a moose with a bow. If I had any more rep I would give you some. Maybe tomorrow when my rep ban lifts.
