Re: mountain bike help

I was thinking of getting the mountian bike made by giant. Thoes have the big sus. and lots of wheel travel. Very nice bikes too. They will run you $1000 - 3500.00 for one.

Re: mountain bike help

so,

i test rode a couple bikes today. one full suspension and one hardtail.

so far i like the hardtail a bit more, i think its because i'm just used to it. the rear shock just didn't feel right to me riding around on the pavement.

ill have to get a test ride of a full suspension in the dirt to really get a taste of it

Dom, Stay away from the DB and MG. Go to a bike shop. not a sporting goods/ general store. In the long run you'll be glad you went to the bike shop.

Re: mountain bike help

Ive got an older Klein Pulse with Shimano XT componets I bought used years ago. It's super light and rides great. My only upgrade has been replacing the broken pedals it had with Crank Brothers Egg Beaters which are a great pedal.

I bought mine barely used for at least half of retail. Gave me a much nicer bike than what I could have gotten new. Also I bought it from a shop so I knew it wasnt stolen etc.

Re: mountain bike help

thanks for everyones input!!

i found a NEW 07 Kona Kikiput on closeout for a $599 and also a barely used 05 Mongoose teocali super for $700.

i know some of you dont like mongoose, but i had real good luck with them in my bmx days, took a lot of abuse from me. plus i've read a lot of good reviews on this bike.

But i am leaning towards the Kona since its new, im pretty sure its good for a beginner, and ill be able to mod it myself down the line, and just learn more. the mongoose is already modded, so wheres the fun in that?

they are both full suspension too.

im going to visit more bike shops this weeks to look and test and then i get paid friday so ill have a better view of where i am at financially.
