What, in your perhaps not so humble opinion, is the best brand of tools? I am tired of the lack of tools in my garage, so I am about to go (to Home Depot?) and buy a nice set for my husband for Xmas. Yeah, it's really a gift for me, but whatever.
What I have now is a hodgepodge of old tools, poorly organized, and I want a nice set. Craftsman? My brother is a Sears diehard...
Can't go wrong with Craftsman they have lifetime warranty. My expierence with them has been good on replacement. They have replaced the tool with no questions asked.

I have tons of Craftsman from over the years, but after Sears crap over my defective water softener, I have been buying Husky at Home Depot as I have banned Sears from my money for 5 years.
I love the Husky tools, same or better prices as Sears, very nice selection, and my Husky 41" roll-away tool box with ball bearing roller drawers is excellent. Home Depot is a great place to buy tools.
Make sure to get the Husky lifetime warranty tools as they sell off brands too.
The best thing about Husky (HomeDepot) and Craftsman (Sears), if you break a tool and need it replaced, you don't have to try to track down a truck and hope he has it as you do with Snap-on, Mac etc.. My father is a Pro Mechanic, he now buys all Husky and Craftsman (except specialty items), because of convenience and waiting 2 weeks for a replacement socket......

Always good, and always a local store. I've been using my own craftsman tools for over 30 years, and have my fathers old tools too (SAE doesn't work on an FJ...). ONCE when I was in high school, and used a Craftsman screwdriver as a chisel on my CJ-2A, and went to turn it in. The salesman told me I obviously abused it, trying not to replace it. I pointed over his head to the sign that said "Satisfaction Guaranteed" or something like that, he just looked at me and got me the new screwdriver... Worth it.
Proto! is the bomb, S&K I like, but have had reat use from Kobalt series of stuff. You'l probably hear some Snap-On votes but I think they are over priced, although great quality.

I buy Craftsman. When I break one, I get the free replacement, and also purchase a Snap-on of the same tool. I've built a nice box of tools with this method.

i am a snap on guy. snap on and mac are your best for the professional, matco and cornwell are a distant third/fourth. but for the average toold user that isnt a mechanic or professional, you can go wrong with craftsman. i still have a second set of tools for the race trailer that are craftsman professionals.
