Kayak fishing...

Ok, I've searched and I know that there are both kayakers and fishermen on this forum. My question is, are there any kayak fishermen? I started about two years ago.

I've since equipped two of my kayaks with a fish finder, rod holders, etc. I love it - nothing in all of my fishing experiences beats grappling with even a decent sized fish from a kayak. I just wondered if there was anybody here that enjoys this sport like I do.

Re: Kayak fishing...

i've been kayak fishing for about two years now mainly in long beach ca. but sometimes 2 miles off the coast of dana point harbor. its great i tell people that catching a good size fish is like walking a wild dog with roller skates on.

Re: Kayak fishing...

My wife and I kayak and want to try fishing from them next summer.
I have a Perception Airlite eclipse 17'
My wife has a Perception Shadow 16.5'
They are narrow touring boats and should prove challenging to fish from.

I've wanted to try duck hunting out of mine as well - have a 12' Perception Sundance and a 12' Mad River Synergy - both well equipped - rod holders, fish finder, etc. Actually, another thing that I've been itching to do is squirrel hunting on small creeks and rivers - I've seen folks do this back in Oklahoma and it always looked like great fun. The only thing I'm unsure about (because I haven't tried it yet...) is the whole manner of handling a shotgun while kayaking. Any tips? What do you use for a gun holder?

P.S. I spent many years doing field research in the Ouachita Mountains and know portions of them (North of Hot Springs) like the back of my hand. I haven't been there for awhile but can think of lots of places I'd like to go kayak fishing there.

first thing if duck hunting out of a kayak...have a waterproof backpack with a set of extra clothes...and a way to make a quick fire....and have a floating gun case....cabelas sells them....learned these lessons the hard way!....not good having a very excitible lab in the kayak when shooting ducks....my kayak is really a stable platform from which to hunt or fish...old towne has many options for it...trolling motor mounts/anchors/dog platforms...etc and the last thing is always wear your pfd....RR

Re: Kayak fishing...

I use my Kayak to run baits out off the beach. We do pretty well catching redfish and sharks from the beach just drag your baits out relax and wait for the run.
