Re: The Official "Bike Rack" Thread

I was also thinking about getting a Gobi rear-ladder and then getting a ladder bike rack like the ones they use on RV's (plus, this will give me an excuse to by a Gobi ladder since I they serve no real purpose to me but I think they are cool...)

Check out htis idae if you are alone or with only one other person this works great. I set one up with a plastic where the aluminum is and works great.

does the rack dip enough to open the rear door?
I can open the door 3/4's. It folds back and in half. If you ride lots, nothing beats this rack. I 've had them all.

edit: 100% now, I told them my vehicle and they gave me a part to allow for the back to open up 100%

Re: The Official "Bike Rack" Thread

$500 Canadian. I was the first one to get it on a FJ...they took a pick and put my truck on their site. My life revolves around downhill biking so I didnt want to fool around... I bought the best.

Re: The Official "Bike Rack" Thread

I post this for information purposes only. Not ragging on the rear racks.

I owned a large mountain bike racing team called Wolf Creek a few yars back.

We sponsored just over 300 riders nation wide.

Supplying bikes and parts to top amatuer riders.

During the 4 years we did this we lost one bike from a roof rack, by it being ran into the garage. Not good.

We lost 23 by being hit from the rear on the back of the a vehicle.

We lost 2 by them falling off the rear mount rack.

And we lost 3 by them being stolen fromt the rear rack.

Those numbers should give you an idea of how safe rear racks are.

Do as you guys see fit, but I would never under any circumstance place a high end bike in a bumper situation.

Ride on guys.

Re: The Official "Bike Rack" Thread

So I am posting this because I have not seen this bike rack posted much on this site. Maybe because this is a custom job from some guy that had these on EBAY for a short period of time. I think he has stopped making these. Its the same guy that makes the center console cover with the same material. I love this rack because the bike fits perfectly in the back and is protected from the elements. The picture only shows one bike but it has another piece that can be added on to hold two. I think I only paid $100-120 for it. So long ago I cant remember.

Re: The Official "Bike Rack" Thread

I have a similar set up in mine, but I do not use it. I hate moving my seat for any reason. I am a nut case about it. I could not get my mountain bike in with it so just forgot about using it. It may work with the road bike though, but I made a shelf that is permanently attached now.

If you can get them inside it is the best by far. Looks good and safe.
