I was a Lakers of the 80's fan. I think that Showtime Team was probably one of the best teams in history. Their center at the time was a 40-year old one dimensional player that was money down low. He couldn't run, but was effective down low and was key to starting the break. Do you think the current Suns team really has it that bad?
Shaq is not the same player anymore, but he is not going to be #1 or #2 in the offense in Phoenix. He is more of a role player now. Plus, you are forgetting that his biggest contribution to the Suns would be helping Amare, both on the court and off.
Marion is a great athletic player, but without a true center to play along side Amare, the Suns could rack up wins, but they probably would not be able to win the championship anyway. They don't really need a dominant Center, they just need a good one. Kurt Thomas couldn't run either, but his presence at center last year made the Suns a more physical team. The Suns just might surprise you.

thing bout snaq is that he doesnt like rebounding or playing defense if he isnt getting touches on the offensiv eend. I dont think that trad eis gonna make them contenders,but they had to try something because they would never win a championship with that run n gun style. I mean come on the lakers almos tbeat them with kwame brown and smush parker starting.
I know. That's because they match up well with other teams, but not well against teams that have big men that can kill you on the borads. The fact is you just cannot go into a 7-game series and win with the run and gun style without some kind of half-court game.
i could have shot 50% with the suns' terrible defense. phoenix will not be able to stop the pick and roll when shaq is out there. parker and duncan will eat them alive.
Great game for the lakers and Kobe. Gasol is the perfect compliment for Kobe and like I mentioned before it makes lamar better also. I hope they keep going strong.
