Sports Injuries

Holy cats that's a bad cut- Richard Zednik. Good thing there is medical aid right at the rink and good to hear that he is ok. I was thinking of all the times I've been on the ice and come that close to leaking my "O" + all over the ice. That was all the talk at the beer leauge game we had last night which just happened to be one of the last left before playoffs and became a little "intense" in the last 10 minutes.

This morning I was thinking of starting a thread for "Injuries sustained while participating in sports"

Personally in hockey I've had: 1 Broken collarbone, 1 dislocated sholder, 1 broken fingers, 2 broken knuckels, streched MCL, "numerous beauty marks" IE: stiches, but keep coming back for more.

Just wondering if anyone else has no regard for their bodies when partaking in Recreation like I do?

Re: Sports Injuries

I played hockey for 13 years competitively and never had a single injury.

Snowboarding I've broke my knee and tore my ACL, broke my wrist, broke 3 ribs, black eyes from knee into goggles, skin torn off while bailing with no shirt on, 4 concushions, crushed nerve in my wrist, bit the tip of my tongue off. I think that is it.

Skateboarding I just had a lot of road rash

oh my GAWD. You need to 1) wear a helmet 2) take a lesson

I am a skier and as much as I don't like to hate, I tend to hate you guys.

I tore ALL the ligaments in my foot as a teen on a skateboard, and it's why I will never snowboard!

Re: Sports Injuries

I wont take it personally since I use to compete. Injury/risk is part of the game. When you jump a 60 foot gap, $hit can happen! And the concusions were all before helmets were available. I wear one now. When I was younger, just cruising wasnt enough fun. Had to always go bigger, higher, spin more and go inverted.

My black eyes are always from landing on the back of my neck and having my knees punish my face.

And by the way, Ive never once had ski patrol bring me down the mountain.

As for skiiers, I hate you guys too.... the 80's called, they want their 1 piece flourescent suits back!

Re: Sports Injuries

It would be easier to list what has not been injured, torn, wrecked, broken or stretched.

Left elbow is still good
Left Shoulder is in one piece
That's about it, have a few loose screws but not sure what the cure for that is.

Re: Sports Injuries

Glad I'm not the only one, my worst "sports injury" was actually cattle penning and I had my foot crushed by my horse (he slipped in the dirt and when he stood up it was on my foot) looked like pulling a wet sock out of a rubber boot.

I think the only cure for loose screws is the belief that your doing this all for fun.

Re: Sports Injuries

There is no such thing as 'sports injuries'.....an injury is an injury and the treatment/therapy is the same.
I've played competitive racquetball for almost 20 years, 10 in the 'open' division'.
Concussion, rotator cuff, elbow, knees, and many stitches over the years.
I have had injections in the knee "Supartz". It's synthesized rooster comb.
There are a total of 5 injections on a weekly basis. It's for knees that are rubbing bone to bone. It is rather viscous and works by separating the bones and lasts a long time. Not much pain from the injections.
Have been pain free for over a year, but I had to quit playing. I've become a 'spin class' addict at the gym. A really kick ass cardio workout.

My bad, what I should have put was "what were recreation activity were you doing that you got injured- follow up from the Richard Zednik cut arteriey last night Buffalo VS. Florida- no tennis elbows or writers cramps allowed"

Re: Sports Injuries

While playing basketball-
1.Tore all the tendons away from the bone in my left anke.
2.Collided and hit heads with another player, resulting in cracking my orbit floor (the bone right underneath the eye) and the bone above my eye, so now I have metal plate there.
3. Broke my index finger knuckle, had to wear a cast up to my elbow
4. Countless broken fingers, toes, nose...

BMX Racing-

1. Stitches 3 times
2. broken elbow
3. broken nose (again)
4. Around5 sprained ankles

That's all I can think of right now... I'm sure there's more!
