Has anyone here hunted deer with .45 LC?

Have you?...and how does the round perform? (I've never hunted with it, only gone plinking and it seems like a light load for big game). I am debating going on the hunt this fall with my 1860 Henry reproduction. Thanks for input

Just be close, say under 50 yards and place the shot well. It did a serviceable job in the Civil War.

No, but I have with a Marlin lever action in both .44 Mag and .357 Mag.

Re: Has anyone here hunted deer with .45 LC?

I've hunted people with the S&W Model 25-5, .45 LC. One word of caution. It doesn't have the velocity or knock-down potential that the .44 Magnum has. From what you said, I'm guessing you'll use a rifle and you'll get more velocity than I did with the handgun because of barrel length and powder burn.

Are you going to load them yourself? If so, load them hotter than you might otherwise be inclined to do.

One of the problems with the .44 Mag or .45 LC is that in a handgun there is a lot of unburned powder going out the barrel, creating a muzzle bloom. A lot more will be burned in the barrel of your rifle.

If it was me, I'd edge toward .44 Mag unless it's nostalgia that you're after.
