Re: RIP Scott Kalitta NHRA driver dies in firey crash.

I'm a big NHRA fan, go to at least one race a year. Just a bad day. In the video it looks like he never slowed, the chute was streaming then into the fence at the other end. Almost took out the camera guy in the boom lift too.

My condolences to the Kalitta family. I remember watching his dad race when I was growing up.

Re: RIP Scott Kalitta NHRA driver dies in firey crash.

Ive seen some comments on ESPN.com about people blaming NHRA for not requiring longer tracks or sand pits. But at 300+ hitting a sand pit would still be fatal. But like Earnhardt this will some changes at all NHRA tracks.

Just saw this on the news about 5 min. ago.
My prayers go out to his family. I was a big fan of his dad when I was a kid.
About the only good thing that can be said is that he was doing what he loved to do when he left us.

Re: RIP Scott Kalitta NHRA driver dies in firey crash.

I would think a gravel pit might have saved his life. I have seen some nasty F-1 one crashes over the years & since Senna died and they increased most tracks runoff areas it has helped there. The footage the end of track cameraman got must be stunning. Its a shame when any motorsports fatality occurs but, frankly with the speeds these guys are achieving not too suprising.

My condolences to his family. At least the guy went out doing something he truly loved.
