Thumbs up I have an idea...

Hey Doc,

I had an idea.

Please see this thread: Maglite, Extinguisher and Recovery Tool Mounts

I really like the setup SHP has here, but with a few twists...

I manufacture these:

They replace the plastic (read "weak") grocery bag hooks, and you now have a solid billet piece to mount to. I've sold a few sets, and I have another set here for the original idea maker, in black anodize: forum member tnegiet.

What I would like for my rig is a set of these, still in black anodize (though I can do other colors as well) with a smaller version of your rear door rack to accomodate your pouches (in sweet sweet SWAT black ) and a place to mount my extinguisher laying across the top, or attached to the rack in another fashion. Either or.

I think it would make that space extremely useful and you'd have my money right away.

Please and thank you!?

Cheers,

Joel

Re: I have an idea...

Clever Joel!

Use the solid billet grocery bag mounts for a rack system...very functional. Hope to see if it comes to fruition. The creativity of people on here never stops amazing me...

Re: I have an idea...

Joel,

I think that it is a great idea! PM sent. How are you suggesting to mount the bottom of the rack?
I think that the rack would need four points of attachment for stability. I think that it would be a huge success if we could do this without having to drill on the FJ.

If we can come up with a size that I can use in something else (I have been approached about doing something for the back seat of Minis), that would be good. I will do some measuring and talk to my engineer on monday.

It would require about 50 committed pre-sales (ie 50% down) to get this rolling at this time as all my funds are stuck in Bags and Jeep rack production right now.

The cost of the rack?? I'm won't venture a guess yet...it seems that smaller does not actually mean less expensive in the manufacturing world, at least that is the way the Jeep rack is turning out. Of course, the people who pre-order are going to get a rocking good deal!

If we can come up with a plan, I can have a prototype in 3-4 weeks and a production unit on my end in another 3-4 weeks.

Let's hear everyones opinion on this matter.

Re: I have an idea...

I can take a look at it some more today Doc. I was kind of thinking that the billet mounts would support most of the weight and all that would be necessary for the bottom-back would be some rubber bump stops that rested on the wall and wheel well.

I'm in. I am so stoked to get these in my FJ.

Re: I have an idea...

I did a bit of measuring, it looks like the rack could be about 11 inches high and somewhere between 17-19 inches wide.

It would need to have some drilled mounts on the base, which has easy access through the jack storage panel. I could have the shop knock out some lower mounts easy. I would probably send the rack to Joel and have him fit the rack to his mounts first and then do the lower mounts...or he could do them?

Or I can send you some mounts? Whatever gets this going. I'll do whatever I can to help, just let me know!

Man I can't wait to fill these! Snatch block, tow straps, portable radios, survival gear, other winch accessories, spare CV parts and boots, spare links, first aid kit, specialty tools not in my tool box, jumper cables, dog toys ().

All neatly stowed. This is one of the most innovative products I've seen on this board to date!
