Sometimes in our search for “All things MOLLE” and quality storage, we come across some products that are so spectacularly good or bad that we have decided to start a series of reviews to share our experiences.
Thule Go-Tote-Bin Backseat Organizer
Ok, the latest ice storm has knocked out our power, so I have no excuses not to write another review.
This is one of the first items that we bought to compliment the FJC. It has proven to be very useful, especially if you do not carry a passenger behind the drivers seat, if you have kids with all the paraphanalia that goes with them or if you just want to organize the various junk and keep it all in one place in your cargo bay or in an empty front seat. When we sold our Yukon Denali, there was a lot of stuff that went under the rear seat that now was without a home. Necessity is the mother of invention, luckily Thule had already invented something for the backseat. Ours primarily holds kid stuff...extra clothes, DVDs, Toys etc. We found the organizer in the automotive section of Target (I recall it was $39.99 but I can only find it online for roughly $50.00) and it has proven itself a worthwhile addition to the FJC.
The Thule Organizer is not your average floppy bag or stodgy milk crate that one just tosses in the car. For the most part, it is actually an attractive addition to just about any vehicle. Shaded in tones of blue and gray...it seems to compliment the interior of most autos (keep in mind that the author is color-blind, so it all looks good to me).
It features six outside pockets, each is webbed for ventilation and drainage. The outside walls are supported by a flexible yet firm board-like material that holds the organizer in a useful shape. The fabric is tough with a water resistant lining and the stitching is exceptional in quality. The folks at Thule even thought of lightly padding the front pockets so you don't rack your knuckles while reaching for the Tylenol.
The inside of the organizer is roomy and versatile. There is a large compartment towards the rear that is covered by a velcro flap. It is 12 inches wide x 5 inches long x10 inches deep with a zippered pocket the rearmost portion of the organizer.
Forward in the large compartment is two smaller open compartments that serve to hold the smaller items in your vehicle. Each is 6 inches wide x 2 inches long x 6 inches deep.
Central in the large compartment (12 inches wide x 8 inches long x 7 inches deep) is another open area with a velcro divider that can be removed or repositioned to suit a persons individual tastes. In addition, the anterior wall of the covered compartment has a netted pocket for magazines, maps or phone books.
Thule has really paid attention to the details. The system is easy to move about because Thule has even added a carry strap that not only serves that purpose but also functions to keep your stuff inside the organizer when you are in the rough stuff.
The organizer won't slide around on your seat because there are four durable gripping pads on the base.
What's Hot
Easy to get, just look at your local Target store
Decent price
Excellent craftsmanship and quality
What's Not
I would like to see a retaining strap that either hooked up to the LATCH or through a seat belt, just so it does not become a projectile in an accident
A color choice would have been nice (I'm nitpicking now)
Summary:
Thule has made a very functional and reasonably priced organizer. It is easy to pull out of the vehicle and restock or rearrange. It is absolutely amazing how much this thing can hold and how easy it is to find your stuff in it.
If you suffer from COD (Compulsive Organization Disorder) like everyone at Springtail/M-PAC...this is a "MUST HAVE" item!
