Re: M-PAC side rack goodness :)

I ordered a side rack last night. I was the first guy to get the MPAC for the rear door and loved it ever since.

One cautionary note. If you're going to run the rig hard, you need to get that fire extinguisher off the plastic shelf or put something on the shelf to protect it from the rubbing that will occur.

I know that Toyota did not anticipate "us" in the level and intensity that we are using the FJ. That shelf area should have been (a) metal (b) a complete hard point. But it's neither. Just a word to the wise from a guy whose FJ Cargo area is taking a whipping from the cargo (even strapped down) that's being carried in the back.

I think that some of the marine weather stripping (adhesive, spongy/tough rubber) might do the trick as well so that there is a cushioning effect on the bottom of the extinguisher. It's on the order of $4 for a 10 ft. roll and you can get it at any hardware store. That plus the grip pads would do the trick and you won't get vibration noise from it at all.

Additionally the marine weather stripping is a good thing to have on hand. Once you isolate what's squeaking you put an adhesive strip on each side where contact is made (and you're not usually talking more than a 1-2" piece on each side) and squeak - gone.
