MPAC + Tuffy

So, With the Tuffy installed already, I'm in the process of removing the driver's side 'flap' to make room for the side MPAC to mount my Powertank, fire extinguisher and hatchet on...*might* have room for one of the two medium molle bags I ordered as well to store smaller items. (I plan to relocate a ham radio in the 'underspace' that the flap previously covered.)

Flashlights are already going to be mounted on the rear door and front compartment, so there's really no room for a rear MPAC on the rear door, which is a bummer - the Tuffy drawer is simply too tall and there's not enough clearance.

I know there's very little market for it, but a 'small height' MPAC that would fit the rear door while clearing the top of the Tuffy would be really nice for storing horizontal items (shovel, maybe small pelican/otter cases, etc.).

But I do love the rack, and the bags are excellently made.

Re: MPAC + Tuffy

Would it be possible to post some pics from the back seat with the rear door closed to show how much room is left above the tuffy box? This thread needs lots of pics anyway

Is there room between the rear door and the tuffy box to mount an M-PAC Rack and just put stuff on the open spaces that are above the tuffy box??

This info would be very helpful for others who are considering a combination of the two. I know of at least 4 forum members who are very interested in adding the Tuffy box with the MPAC system.

Thanks,

Doc

I'll take pics tomorrow, but checked today and it looks like any rack that would fit above the Tuffy would be very short - and there's essentially NO room between the back door and the rear of the Tuffy box.

I did manage today to remove the lefthand flap/panel of the Tuffy box to open up that space, and install the M-PAC side rack. I also managed to attach my Powertank holder (barely - by removing the plastic base on the powertank, only way it would fit.). To the left is a medium pouch, with a Maglite holder horizontal below the M-PAC, and a small hatched wedged between. No room for the fire extinuisher unless I remove the pouch, but I want to keep that, so the extinguisher will go elsewhere.

My guess is that there is perhaps 6-8" of space available on the back of the door above the Tuffy box. If there were such a rack available, it would be an excellent place for either small pouches or horizontal items - small rifles, fire extinguishers, road safety flares, whatever, but it wouldn't be enough room for, say a medium size MPAC pouch.

All in all, the combination of the Tuffy box and the MPAC rack and its attachments have solved all of my storage issues entirely. I like the layout, it's funtional, but still leaves room for storage on top of the Tuffy. I think it's a nice, elegant solution. I know where everything is, nothing gets jostled or damaged, and I can get to any item in seconds.

Pics will follow.

By the way, since the medium pouches come in twos, and I have space for one, I'd be happy to sell my spare to a forum member for a reasonable price, please contact via PM only if interested.

What did you use to mount that torch in the middle of the door?
