Factory Toyota Radio issues on 11 FJ

I am having some issues with this radio right now on my '11 FJ.

1- When using my ipod and scrolling through artists/songs etc... the radio plays the songs as it scrolls through the artists. So in other words you can't scroll through and pick the artists without it automatically playing every song that you land on for more than a few seconds. Also- the songs populate the screen on radio slowly... scrolling through takes a long time for the words to populate.

2. On XM you can't use the steering wheel controls to change from one station to the next.

3. Most importantly probably- the dial by name feature on the bluetooth module is not working properly. If I press the talk button and say "Call whoever" the radio will not understand me or will think I am saying callback. I have tried to set up many different names and options but I still can't just press the talk switch and say "Call Whoever" and have it call them. I know this should work b/c my co-worker came to my FJ and told me it wasn't working properly like his RAV4. I'm going to have the dealership look at it but thought someone might have an idea here too.

Voice recognition is always dicey and depends on you and your speech patterns; try speaking more towards the rear view mirror, which is where the mic is located.

As far as XM, unfortunately the steering wheel controls only allow you to go up and down through radio presets; there's no way to have them seek to the next/previous station.

First off, I know all 3 are not related. 1 & 2 are working as designed. While it my not be to your liking, it is the design as they implemented it.

For #3, can't tell you. Mine works hit and miss, more hit than miss. Road and background noise along with my mood seem to play a the biggest impact in voice commands working.

Good luck.

Thanks Bill and Oregonvoice... Its brand new so its all new to me... so I wasn't sure... but its good to have confirmation that that is how the radio is supposed to work... and its not just the settings.

Although, I have to say, after having a pioneer that you could scroll through with a remote easily- no waiting on the ipod info to show up and no autoplay when you land on the songs- I find this to be a definite weak spot. Other than that I like the radio.

The bluetooth issue is going to have to be resolved by the dealer I think. We were testing it with the FJ parked in a quiet lot. My co-worker has his working in his RAV4 and says that it is no working properly.

yeah thats just it being slow... same for me...

you can it will go through your presets... you can even limit the amount of presets you have...
3. Most importantly probably- the dial by name feature on the bluetooth module is not working properly. mine works fine just articulate enough... i never use the handsfree anyway isnt it easier just to look at the phone... or jsut dont talk on the phone...

Same with my 11 as far as the ipod goes. you could always just get a mini plug to mini plug wire and select the songs from the ipod screen, it would actually probably be safer considering the time it takes for the names to load.
