USB Thumb Drive will not play all songs

When I play MP3 songs through my USB thumb drive most of them work perfectly all of the time. However, there are a few songs that it simply refuses to play. Does anyone know what could be casuing that? Any similar experiences?

Re: USB Thumb Drive will not play all songs

Could be many things.

DRM

File name length

Unsupported bitrate

Unsupported file type

May be a max number of files on a single drive that the unit can map.

Just to name a few...

Ive had same issue and eliminated all but bitrate. It seems all mp3s on my drive that are higher bitrate (320) wont play. It could be something else but thats where im at so far.

Re: USB Thumb Drive will not play all songs

Does anyone know the specs to the audio system? I have had a hard time finding what is supported as far as bitrate goes and folder lengths and such. I am going to do some experimenting, I will post my results here.

I did the same. Also looked for specs as far as bitrate. Didnt find anything nor any responses on another thread. My next attempt was going to convert the files that wouldnt play to lower bitrate but i got sidetracked. dnt know how to do that but was going to find out. Let us know what u discover.

Re: USB Thumb Drive will not play all songs

I have tried to reduce the bitrate to 128 and it did not help, then I tried to rename the folders to shorten them up and that did not help either. Then I really started to insept the difference in meta data between one that works and another that does not.

I noticed that the one that does not work was encoded using a variable bit rate, VBR. Mp3 files can be converted to use a Constant Bitrate, CBR, so I am looking into that now. In doing some research I have found that some older mp3 players will not play vbr encoded mp3 files. I am going to run some more tests and will post here.

I never found a solution. Wondering if HitTheTrail figured it out with the VBR theory...

Re: USB Thumb Drive will not play all songs

This is vexing to me - I'm always curious about mp3 player anomolies. I don't normally use a usb stick for music - I plug my old sandisk fuze 2 running rockbox into the aux jack. But if I were to ever use a usb stick, I'd want it to work.

So I did a test, so I loaded 3 albums of music onto a standard cheapo supermarket stick. Two of the folders were commercial rips I had bought on emusic.com - 224 vbr mp3. The 3rd was one I had ripped myself - 320 vbr mp3. Strangely enough, one of the emusic ones didn't work, although the other 2 did. So it's not a vbr thing. Most everything you get commercially is vbr, so I didn't think that was the issue. I can't find a reason why the one emusic one wouldn't play - it has the same specs as the other emusic one that plays fine.

Curious. I will have to look into this further.
