It looks as if an L bracket would suffice, or some bent flat iron would do it as well. I like the look and it is something that is very needed in our FJ's

Very good point CHI. If you would locate the hole a little more to the "rear" you could make the bracket without 1 of the bends and it would make putting the mounting screws in easier also. since mine is done already, we need a "virgin" to try this improved idea. I'll make a bracket for someone if they want to give it a try....

Re: Overhead map light install (lots of pics and details)

Quick note ...

A number of you have asked for "the bracket" in the recent past and I have not sent them yet.

I will spend some time today seeing what I can do on the "new and improved" version.

Will get back a little later today on what I find out and maybe post some pics and details.

Update1 ....

I have it! Will really clean up the install, details later.

Update2 ....

Will do a simple install guide for the new method.

Re: Overhead map light install (lots of pics and details)

Hello, great mod idea, I could'nt see cutting a hole in my nice FJ ceiling , so I took out the worthless interior light and put the same one you displayed in its place. Drilled 2 holes in the resessed rib of the ceiling to fit the posts on the light. and drilled the 2 holes for the screws, great fit and OEM look. Works great.

Great idea! Those swivel spots on the GM fixture really work well don't they? And the neat thing is, you can find those fixtures for $5-10 bucks on e-bay.
