Re: Overhead map light install (lots of pics and details)

so was the sound deadening worth the cost/trouble? I'm probably just spoiled in my nice tundra, but i wish my fj was a little more quiet at freeway speeds.

Doesn't the removal of the headliner require some special attention to the airbags?

Re: Overhead map light install (lots of pics and details)

The sound deadener cut down on freeway noise a little, but I am waiting for the rain to test it out. I would not do it just for the noise. I also ran wires through the roof to my lights and removed the headliner for that job. One mod leads to another and another........

The airbags did not affect the headliner removal.

Re: Overhead map light install (lots of pics and details)

I have three plugs, for Honda/Acura homelink. FREE to the first three folks who need em. (these are left overs from my previous project)
These are three wires (about 2-5 inches) on a three socket plug. I am offering these to folks with HOMELINK (since there are three wires coming from the plug). So this way you don't have to try and drop solder into the console. Must provide proof of Honda homelink ownership.
For those without homelink I am pretty sure I have some two wire into three plugs somewhere, have too look.

PM me.

I'm sure you mean that so you can get them the correct connector - right?

Hello, great mod idea, I could'nt see cutting a hole in my nice FJ ceiling , so I took out the worthless interior light and put the same one you displayed in its place. Drilled 2 holes in the resessed rib of the ceiling to fit the posts on the light. and drilled the 2 holes for the screws, great fit and OEM look. Works great.
Wavejumpr, I kind of agree with you - cant see cutting into my head liner. Putting it where you did looks like it came from the factory! But does installing one in the same place as the orginal give enough light. My hat is off to "SWISSARMYSUV" for having enough gump to do this mod. I appreciate both of you for showing us exactly to do it ... you both are an asset to FJ curiser owners. Awesome JOB SwissArmySuv you have started something great!

I decided to go the scanguage route by using an overhead console from a 2001 Honda Odyssey. Not only does it have the area to mount the scanguage but it has Homelink built into it
Do you have any pic's you can post of your install. Also would the New Light not look better moved forward, closer to the rearview mirror? Would the bracket fit in that position SwissArmySuv? More pic's of Dome Light installs Please from everyone who has done this or similar. Thanks

Re: Overhead map light install (lots of pics and details)

SwissArmySUV, I am expecting to receive my eBay $5.00 GM light anyday now. Just wondering on the GM Light Mod does the GM light fade to off like the stock FJ light? I like that feature on the current light. Also what about an on/off feature on the GM light. Sometimes you dont want the overhead light to come on when the door is open. Hopefully my light will be here early next week so I can do your conversion. Thanks
