I have used them a lot since install. They would never get hot enough to ignite something. Don't get me wrong they do get very warm but not hot enough to cause something to catch on fire.
Also mine has a switch in the bottom pad that senses weight and will not turn on unless someone is in the seat. If you're sitting in it and don't realise that it is on at first, you will soon and shut it off before it gets real real hot....

I did just that although it wasn't neoprene seat covers. They were those seatcovers from the seat cover factory. You know the ones on ebay that are color coordinated to your FJ. Well instead of putting the elements in the seat, I taped the elements into place in the same orientation they would be if you installed them into the seatcover, then re-installed them back onto the seat. The tape I used was that foil based HVAC tape..almost like duct tape but with foil. Now for the switches, instead of mounting them on that silver trim piece left of the steering wheel, I mounted them right on the console, one on each side of the temp. controls.
A lot of friends who have seen my install said that it looks factory. With the morning that we've been having, I glad I installed them
I have the Wet Okole covers, I was thinking of doing the same thing, did you ever have any issues?
I have to replace my DS seat bottom, I think I might do this since I removing everything for this mod.
I wonder if I can use a OEM heated switch to control the temp?

I recall many posts in the FJ Forum giving the luxury of heated seats a hard time (I must admit I snickered, too). Then, I moved to the north, bought a sooby Outback with heated seats and used them: they are a necessity!
Thanks for doing this and letting us know that there's options! It's been -20 below and the seats are as hard as rocks for a long time...
An additional thought here: would there be a benefit to doing this install and instead of making it integral to the seat, just buy a set of seat covers (i.e. Okies) and place the heating pads between the seat and the covers?
I'm thinking this would make the install easier (tho I'm not against "wrenchin' it"), but the seat may warm up quicker for the occupant...
(oops...disregard post...I see others are already discussing this...)
