An idea, where your bracket makes the 90, is there a piviot of some type that could be added? In order to fold the legs up when you need to.

Re: Home Grown Laptop Mount

Pull over...put laptop on lap....surf...when your lap gets warm...shut off computer ...get back in drivers seat and drive. Its also a good idea to pull over when your on your phone or iPod (the life you save may be your own)
Its amazing that we could ever get out of the neighborhood without Google earth and GPS .

Bottom line. that setup is dangerous!!!

Re: Home Grown Laptop Mount

The year is 2007, so in order to make it safer an idea is given, this day and time most jobs can't be done with out electronics, it doesn't matter moving or still, thats how the world goes round, sorry cave man!

If the arms are movable instead of fixed, and shorter than the top of the dash, it would work. Or go spend 300.00, cheaper and probably stronger to build yourself.

These work, are sturdy, and bolt right to the seat mount.

They take about five minutes to install, can be mounted on a rear bolt for the passengers, have a quick disconnect option.

Well, if you just like to post things to share, you shouldn't take any offense to any feedback. Once you did get something back, you pop off saying you don't care. You either care or not...either way, I see no redeeming value to your idea.

It can't be used while you drive, you can't bring a passenger when wheeling unless you relegate them to the back seat, even if no passenger was in the seat, if the airbag went off, it would probably throw the laptop against the seat and deflect who knows where, but if you like it, that's all that matters.

If you want to not bring a passenger, there are many ways to use that space to secure a laptop and see/use it from the drivers seat. I'm not going to say sorry for anything negative since you don't care and just want to share your idea.
Thanks dad.

I saw those when I was surfing the net looking for examples of what was available.

I plan to only use this for four wheeling, to track where I've been, find areas of interest, and know where I am. The laptop won't be in the car any other time.

So I just pull it off the dash and put them up only when I plan to go wheeling.
