Nice work. Simple and clean.
What would be your opinion about mounting a radar detector to the bottom of the CB? Would there be a weight or visual issue?
This is the best Idea for a mount Ive seen. Does anyone think that there woulde be an issue using a full size radio? Could the mirrior mount support the weight?
The mirror has a break away insert to allow it to separate if needed. This is holding the bracket in place. I think it would hold just find, my kids pull on the mic cord pretty good some times. You could always reinforce the mirror side mount but it would then require more force to break away if needed.
I want to do the exact same thing but I have a big unit...what did you drill the front screws of the bracket into? Did you just guess? or did you locate the crossmember? And what length screw?
There are no screws in the bracket on my installation. The bracket is sandwiched between the front cross member and mirror bracket. Looking at my radio today it dawned on me that there might not be enough space between visors for a much larger radio.
I mounted mine the same way, in fact I have the same radio. The template is pretty much the mirror mounting plate. Meaning, you use the mirror mounting plate to mark your holes, drill them, and then you can just hold the radio (with the bracket attached to the radio) to the new plate and find where you drill the other holes.
My pic isn't real clear, but I think you can get the idea.
