Replacement Subwoofer

Anyone have any ideas of upgrading the stock 8" subwoofer with someting that actually delivers bass? Best would be 8" powered sub that could fit in existing box.

Re: Replacement Subwoofer

I don't have any ideas about a replacement just yet. I did take it apart to see how much room is available. The existing speaker is 4 1/2 inches deep. You have 5 inches before you hit the small junction box behind the speaker. So anything deeper than 5 inches is out of the question.

Re: Replacement Subwoofer

I'm having a stereo job done, the installer said anything he'd install in the sub compartment would vibrate too much, so they are doing a removable 8 inch sub in its own box.

Re: Replacement Subwoofer

Landrover - you must really like Bazooka equipment.
Anyway I have attached a picture of the bass equipment I had in my Avalanche. I am wondering if you could use the 1 foot thick rear door and make an enclosure out of it?? Especially since it does not have to accept a slide down rear window.

That's a really good idea, I was at the Long Beach Grande Prix last weekend and Al and Ed's had a booth with a FJ all pimped out. It had a 24 inch plasma T.V. mounted in the rear door. At the time I thought how stupid!! But the Subwoofers are much more practical!

Re: Replacement Subwoofer

Subs in the rear door may rattle too much; however, I was planning some exploratory disassembly of the rear door with the mounting of amps in mind. Cabling may be a prohibitive issue their. I was also thinking of making two separate sub boxes for each side of the cargo area with a 10" sub in each. Of course, my ideas will change a hundred times in the next week.
