Re: How to add another 12V Power Outlet

I did this install. It took only about 1/2 hour. I did incase my wires in tubing to prevent wear or getting pinched via e-brake. Very easy install. Only issue I had was finding a drillbit for the required hole. I ended up drilling a 1" hole and used drimell to open it for a nice clean tight fit.

Re: How to add another 12V Power Outlet

slightly off topic, but I used your guide to tap the 12v to run dual head rest dvd players.....works like a charm. I dont know why, but when I tapped into the acc fuse box under the driver it did not power the dvd players so I looked at your guide and said hey why wouldnt it work its only 3.5watts each player....very low amps.

Re: How to add another 12V Power Outlet

Just did this as my first mod. I picked a different location, right in front of the 4x4 shifter. I think its a more stock seeming location and more logical for me to use. I bought the Add an Outlet kit at Walmart for under $6 and for anyone wondering, A 7/8" paddle bit worked perfect for this one.

IMPORTANT TIP: After popping the console off, REPLACE the 4x4 knob so the threads don't scratch the panel that holds all the factory switches!

I spliced on to the Hot wire of existing 12v outlet and grounded under one of the screws for the Yaw sensor right below the new outlet.

Next up is one in the back... after the Ohio State game.

Re: How to add another 12V Power Outlet

Did this install today in about 30 min. Thanks for the write up. This was something I wanted from the day I bought the FJ. I hated unplugging my ipod mount to charge my phone. Now, problem solved for like $7! Like some of the others, I also used a Dremel and got a nice tight fit.

Re: How to add another 12V Power Outlet

Thanks Ruebarb. The directions and photos of the panel removal came in handy for mounting my Lifehammer.
