Re: Lowrance BAJA 540c GPS Install Thread

VENDOR WARNING

My wife ordered this from fotoconnection on 12/14. She spoke with them on Sunday, the 16th, to verify the info. They asked if she wanted to pay an extra $10 to have 3 day shipping. She said sure and today is the 12/24 and it's still not here. We called today and they said it's backordered. Each phonecall to get through to anyone was a very long wait with lots of transfers and "the shipping dept. is closed today" ---would have been nice to know!! ---http://www.resellerratings.com/forum/t123119.html ---this site has lots of negative feedback as well---- bummer

Re: Lowrance BAJA 540c GPS Install Thread

I just installed a 540c in my FJ (well, 90% installed - I don't have a deep enough 10mm socket to remove the a-pillar yet)

The antenna is mounted to the front of my ARB rack. I mounted the unit in the driver's glove box. I removed the cover and mounted the unit in it. It does not block my view - other than of a section of my hood.

I'll post pictures when done.

so far I'm impressed with the unit. Maybe next year I'll get the radar and mount it on a mast I can raise and lower. (way cool, but totally useless on land - the ground clutter would be horrible)

THe Lowrance Baja 540c does not have auto night mode - it has 4 light levels settable from the front, and more adjustments in the menu, including different color combinations to highlight topographical maps...
My older Baja 480C does have a night mode (which works with the four light levels), but it is not automatic. Although the newer models may be different, you access the mode from the Screen, Display Mode menu. It is the same place you can manually adjust the screen brightness/contrast.
