Great!! Post up some pics of your installation when you get a chance.
Here's one - apologize for the crappy pic - I'm no photographer!
Cheers,
Pete

Looks great!! What did you use for your attachment point in the headliner?

Looks like a suction cup on the windshield.

Correct! I wanted a less permanent mount - additionally, I'm not sure what the satellite reception would be above the rearview. Only downside I see is should I need the sun visor, it would block the screen. Of course, I could still hear the voice functions... Anyway, it's working so far and since I can't leave well enough alone, I will likely experiment with other mounting ideas/locations....
Cheers,
Pete

How exactly do you wire the power cable for the GPS? Instead of plugging it in to the Cig Lighter.

Now that I am on break for about a month, this will be one of many low cost mods that I will do to the FJ. I just need to find out how to mount my Magellan.
I have a magellan 700. I took the cig plug and cut it off, exposing the red and black wire. Crimped on 18 gauge wire and ran hot lead (fused) to a (key on hot) plug in my fuse panel and ran the black to a grounded body bolt. It comes on when I start the car. The hardest part is running the wire out of sight behind the dash.

Re: GPS: Overhead / Rear-View Mirror Installation Mod

I was wondering if you checked into the legal problems with mounting your GPS in this way and what you might have found out. I'm sure it's different in most states. I for one live in MN where I'm one of the only 3 states where it's not legal to have it in the windshield. I of course do it anyway...

Re: GPS: Overhead / Rear-View Mirror Installation Mod w/ lots of pics!!

I have a Magellan GPS with the windshield suction cup. This last FJ outting the stupid suction cup kept losing suction (even with lots of slobber on the cup), and I got really tired of it falling on the dash. This way to mount it may be a viable option. Thanks for the great write up, Steve!!
