Garmin C320 / C330 / C340 installation pics

I wanted to post these pictures of the installation of my Garmin C340 GPS unit. This would also work for a C330 or C320.

I'm not going to post excruciating details (and unfortunately I didn't have the camera with me when my brother was doing the installation). If anyone would like details on how we ran the wiring, PM me and I'll be happy to answer any questions. I'm just posting this as a reference for anyone in the future who might be searching for an installation of this unit.

It works quite well. Here are the pics:

Many thanks to my little brother for doing the install. If I had done it, it would have been a mass of duct tape and krazy glue. This is much cleaner!

Looks very nice and clean. How long did it take lil bro to do this? And on a scale of 1-10 (1 being easy, 10 being leave it for a professional installer) how hard was it?

From start to finish (including a trip to Home Depot for rubber grommets) it took my brother and I about 2 hours...and he was doing most of the work.

As for difficulty level, it's hard to say. My brother has done stuff like this many times before, and these things sort of make sense to him. He just kind of made it up as we went along, as we didn't have any sort of reference. For him, it was probably a 4 or 5 difficulty. For me, it would have been about a 26.

The dash pieces come apart fairly easily if you know what you're doing, which he does.

Looks good, but be careful. Very easy to steal. Also probably not covered if not 'permanently' mounted . Check with your insurance company. Definition of permanent could vary between companies.

here's a tip.. although this topic is old and prolly too late for you... go to the parts store (your choosing) and pick up a female lighter socket with bare wires on the end... wire the socket in and hide it under the dash... then you dont have to do what you did with that cord.

Nice tip Fish Antlers. I would do that if I was going with the handheld unit.
Definitely install an extra 12v and hide it under the console and out of site

I have the Sony GPS unit, and it fits quite well in the box in front of the steering wheel. When not in use, I can detach the unit from its mount and close the box (with the unit stored inside the box). This way, it looks totally stock when the unit is not being used.

How do you like that sony unit. Any pluses or minuses you see so far. Any functions unique to that unit or any functions you wish it had. thanks
