I finally got my RS-1304DP today, and installed it in a couple of hours. The issue I was having with the ignition harness being different was due to the dealer installed alarm system. I got everything figured out and the remote start works great.
Thank you TinCan for such a great tutorial, it would have taken forever to figure out without your help.
good deal...I was looking around to find the answer to that one
Fu#$ it you kill yourself not my fault i have a 6speed mine works great. pull out the bypass switch and connect the BLUE/YELLOW and BLACK/YELLOW together just dont leave it in gear!!!! OH I am working on mine when i have time to add a relay only to activate it when the remote start is pushed and back in the day on a wendsday I had put remote starts on mt and i had hooked up pin switches with diodes on say the hood pin cutoff wire at the gear selector. Im going to try and hook up a ground setup like one side of the wire on the shifter shaft and the other on the body so when its in ANY gear its grounded and wont work? Anyone have ideas let me know.
Here is the second starter relay setup if anyone needs it.
85 trigger from brain (negative output when remote started)
86 12v
30 12v
87 output (second starter wire)
( I didnt use the factory remote I like having my door locks and trunk pop)
but cool idea.
Aim me if you have any questions Im MECP master certified
Hi everyone, newbie to the forum here. My name is Robert (2008 FJ).
I am hopefully almost there on my remote start install, but have some questions. I hope someone out there has some input.
I am installing a Galaxy 2000rs remote start system. My unit comes with only one starter output (+). The second ignition output on the unit can also be programmed to operate as a second accesory output, or a second starter output.
I have tried two ways so far. First way, was with only one starter, leaving the second starter wire in the harness untouched. When trying to remote start, the accesories all came to life, and underhood things started to whir as if it wanted to start, but the starter never kicked over. I switched over to using the programmable second ignition (to second starter mode) and now the starter will crank, but will not start the vehicle. I also noticed that the underhood sounds that I heard from the other configuration, were noticably absent. The running lamps, HVAC, all come on like they did when I used the other method.
I am assuming that this might have something to do with not having the second ignition hooked up. With both configurations, I tried remote starting with the key in the ignition (all settings) and still no start.
I am leaning toward going back to the first configuration, using both ignition outputs, and think that I may need to use a relay to make up for the lack of second starter output on the unit. Does this sound like the right way to go? If so, that is where I get a little confused. I have seen two different ways to wire this, and am wondering if anybody could help explain the relay use a little more in detail.
It appears I am getting close, as the door locks are operating with either the factory or aftermarket remote. It auto locks, after a failed start and the runnings light are all working the way I think they should.
Also worth mentioning, I have tried two modes for the tach. First, was tachless operation. It would crank for a a short time (not long enough in my opinion), and would try three times before giving up. Then, I programmed it for tach operation (using the tach sensor behind the glovebox), and it cranks a good bit longer, but only tries once, before giving up. Any thoughts?
I am also wondering about the use of the keysense (green/yellow) wire. I understand the purpose, but does it need to be used, and if so, where would it be properly connected? I am also installing a bypass module, which is not yet spliced into the data IMO, but with a key in the ignition, that shouldn't matter right?
I know that is a lot of questions, but any help would be much appreciated. I haven't driven my FJ in days. It just sits in my shop taunting me!

Would the factory immobilizer have anything to do with it not starting? I was under the impression that this mod would only work on a 2007 (without immobilizer). I'm sure you can get the remote start to work somehow. Good Luck! A lot of 08 and 09 FJ owners will be happy if it works.
Oh, this project just keeps giving. I decided to tackle the immobilizer bypass that I purchased (PKT2 firmware) with the remote start unit. According to the diagram, the second from the bottom plug at the ECM should be where to find the wires. To my surprise, pins 26 and 27 are blank. Those were supposed to be the date IMO and data IMI wires. I checked the Toyota specific wiring chart for updates and there is no mention of the FJ Cruiser anywhere, including their website for the most recent updates. In fact, as far as I remember, there were no vehicles listed above the model year 2007.
I referenced other models, to see if anything might match my ECM connector. The 4 runner seems to be the "closest", where my pin 16 is red/white, but my pin 15 is blue/orange and the 4 runner calls for light blue/red. Close, but not close enough for a test run.
I am wondering if my vehicle is equipped with an immobilizer or not. If so, I can't seem to find out where and what wires. I have 9 open windows, with different web pages and about 10 more shortcuts dropped in a folder. I have been researching the sh!t out of this.
I see in the DIY guide, that the second starter wire is connected to the first using a jumper at the ignition harness. I would have thought relay, but maybe I'll go give that a whirl. Reprogram the unit to second ignition, and jumper the starter wires. I'm slowly running out of patience, but not ready to throw in the towel just yet.
Since the inception of this project, I have only smiled twice. First, when there was a box at my door, and finally tonight.
I was finally able to get the FJ to remotely start. After switching the ignition input wire from one ignition to the other in the harness (I was only using one ignition), my HVAC wasn't coming on, when I tried to remote start. But, the engine sounded like it wanted to start and cranked a lot longer. So, I wired a relay from the module to the second ignition at the harness. I was able to program the horn function to be used as a 3rd ignition trigger.
So, now my second ignition (from remote start) is programmed to act as the second start. And the second ignition (from the ignition harness) is connected to the horn (-) wire, since I programmed the unit to use it as a trigger. Well, that makes perfect sense, right?
I still have some things to work out. Mainly, I need to figure out how to bypass a key in the ignition. Still have no idea where the data IMI and data IMO wires reside.
And, when in tach sense mode, the engine would fire, but shut off after maybe 15 seconds. It's hard to hear over the whirring fan of a cold engine, but it sounded different. I switched to tachless mode and while the starter bursts are shorter, it barely manages to start (at least it does). I figure it was shutting down in the tach mode, because the starter was still engaging.
If there are any gurus out there, I would love to hear from you.
After a late night, I needed to walk away from the project and clear my head. I finally found an updated list of wires for my immobilizer bypass. The 2008 FJ is the only model listed there, low and behold the harness wires I need to splice in, are the same pin location as the 4-runner (pins 15 and 16). The only thing different is the color of the one wire I'd questioned before.
So, perhaps this is good news for 2008 owners (myself included I hope)! I won't get a chance to mess with it until later, but I think I am on the right track. I'll post an update later, and hopefully with some success. If there is interest, I should maybe take a few pictures and post it sometime. I can't imagine I'm the only person who wants to DIY on the '08.
I also figured out the tach/starter problem. I just had to program the unit to learn the RPM and I am good now. I tend to miss little things, when I am starting to get burnt out on a project. So, hopefully good news to come!
The immobilizer is up and running, so I am able to start the '08 without a key in the ignition. Programming the bypass unit was a breeze, and having found info to tap the right data wires to tap didn't hurt either.
Only thing remaining is trying to figure out how to get the drivers door to lock, when the vehicle is started. It unlocks prior to starting, to disable the alarm, but I would like it to lock after the vehicle starts. I could care less about having to manual unlock the vehicle, considering the fact that I didn't have to go outside to warm/cool the vehicle. It seems like a fair trade to me!
Anyways, the immobilizer bypass works flawless! No key, simple to program.
