Best Place To Mount a GPS

Just wondering what location you find is the best place to mount a suction cup base type GPS. I was concerned about mounting it on the windshield because of the front curtain airbags.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

Re: Best Place To Mount a GPS

When I decided I wanted to use my GPS (Explorist) in my car I had a hard time decideing where I wanted to place velcro or drill holes. My final solution was to buy a dash mount and attach it to something to fit in a cup holder.

What I ended up with is a PVC shower drain screwed to the dash mount and slipped into the from cupholder. It is a little tight but so far has worked pretty well. I gets a good enough signal to work and is not blocking any field of view.

I would mount it on your dash.

Why? Well, it's right next to your steering wheel, so your eyes don;t necessarily leave the road.

That's exactly where I've placed mine after taking off of the windshield. So far, with the exception of sun glare at certain angles, it seems to be ok there. I take it of before exiting as I am concerned that my knee will knock it off as I exit.

Anyone else?

A point of clarification.... There are no front curtain airbags. There are side curtain airbags and front airbags which means the top of the dash and the windshield areas are fine for mounting things.

Re: Best Place To Mount a GPS

Putting it on the dash is too low for me. I currently have mine next to the rear view mirror. I'd like to do a more permanent install how Landcruiser did his but I don't have that same type of mount for the Nuvi 750.
