Re: My scanguage II is depressing me

FWIW, I read in the paper the other day that there is a shortage of some chemical that they mix with the summer blend gas, so, you guessed it, the price of gas this summer is going up a lot. Big oil always seems to have a ready made excuse for their pricing actions.

Yes.. Every fillup and if you do one wrong or miss one. You'll need to reset to default and start over.. Ron

How's the SG gonna know how many GLs you put in if you don't tell it? You must be resetting it everytime you fill up and that is not going to be accurate. By entering in how many GLs you put in to top off the tank is the way it figures out the consumption and MPG.

Re: My scanguage II is depressing me

True.. The one most useful thing it will do is to show you where you're best on the highway/Interstate. My 05 Jeep Rubicon really surprised me with 78MPH being optimum for fuel economy. I assumed a "cracker box" with a torque-y 4.0L and 4:11 gears moving through the air would progressively get worse MPG as the speed increased. Ron

Re: My scanguage II is depressing me

Totally agree with Kokopelli and I have been really watching that thing trying to find the sweet spot as well. Sure isn't 78 unfortunately!

However there is an aircraft trick that is often used by pilots. When you are starting a trip and reach your cruising altitude, you then set the throttle for the power and fuel flow you wish, just like normal.

The trick, however, was discovered years ago and allows you to get free extra speed even at that normal throttle setting.

What you do is climb a few hundred feet higher, then descend down to build up speed - and go back down to your cruise altitude. You'll be going faster of course because you were just going downhill.

But the fascinating part is that usually, the airplane keeps that higher speed for a very long time - the whole duration of the flight at that altitude and throttle setting, in fact.

It was a mystery for a long time, and all people can theorize is that during the shallow descent, the airplane finds its own "sweet spot".

Re: My scanguage II is depressing me

It's always better to overshoot and then sneak up on the target/optimum (1st. order), because you may be better off a little above or below the target. I haven't installed my ScanGauge on FJ yet; I'm collecting new mods to add! Where are you thinking the sweet spot will be? It would be nice is it were near 75MPH, possibly a little on the low side. The 78MPH on the TJ was a little high for cruising and smokey was all over me on I-40 (TX, OK). Ron

Re: My scanguage II is depressing me

The FJ sweet spot on mine seems to be right around 70mph for best MPG.

Re: My scanguage II is depressing me

Thanks... I was hoping it would be in that range. Are you auto or manual? I believe the Auto is geared 3.7 and the manual is 3.9. Ron
