If I were going to produce it I would coat it with powder coat or hammerite or something tough that might add a texture.
Well, I have no knowledge of powder coating, but I did see a small setup at Harbor Freight Tools... I will read into it... For all I plan On making for my truck, I may want to get it...

Flat black would work since then it would match the plastic covers.
It matches real well, I just looked at it... If I let it dry for a 2-3 days in a dry area... it will be quite good...

Also, would there be any way to make the piece "taller" so it would fill more of the gaps?.
Well... I was just experimenting and had some 1-1/2" x 1/4" stock in the garage... So I made it up with what I had on hand, otherwise it would have been 2"x1/4", then I would need to trim off an 1/8" for clearance...
This one is offset towads the bottom, I will be trimming the center hinge cover to fit back in to cover all of the top gap... It was thought out... If I had centered it on the hinge instead of at the lower edge, i would not be able to trim the cap to fit around the mount...
I will post up when I get mine on... I almost started on more tonight, but I think I want to pick up some 2"x1/4" tomorrow... plus I need to clear out space for the bender in the garage...
And... I am supposed to meet up with the Toyota Trail team this weekend at Rausch Creak Off-Road Park in PA... That was my Goal of all this... But I almost want to say the heck with it and start fabricating these brackets...
OK, I am beaten Down... I will make the Donuts..ahh...
I mean the Mounts
When I find out how long it takes to produce 5 of these in
one shot, I will add up material, time, and get them to you
gents at that price plus actual cost of shipping...
If you guys want one... please PM with your shipping
info for shipping cost... These will be the 1-7/8"x 1/4" stock
ones to cover the hole gap, not like the original at 1-1/2"x1/4"
stock... But will match the hinge trim with a little mod to the
original design...
So to install, it will require you to remove the original center
hinge molding (which is just snapped on) and bolt on the
mount using one Stainless Steel Nylon Lock-nut (included)
on and having a 7/16" wrech. REAL EASY !!!
This way I can get an idea who wants what and see if I can
get these thing out cost effective, I believe I can, as long
as I can make them in a group, say 5 at a clip... Well.. I will
make however many I need to fill the wants here...
So PM up... and I will do what I can... (and it wont
be overnight - within 2 weeks at the most I would say)

info for shipping cost... and if you need a single hole for CB
mount or two holes for CB and Desert flag... These will be
the 1-7/8"x1/4" stock ones to cover the hole gap
(less work for you to trim the trim piece ), not like the
original at 1-1/2"x1/4" stock...
Have you trimmed the trim piece yet? How does the completed project look? I was looking at it last night, but it was dark and my kids couldn't figure out what they did with my flashlight, but I was wondering if you could mount the antenna mount to the bolt used to hold the hinge on? I'll have to look at it closer when the sun is up.

The center plastic cover comes off, there is a hole in the hinge that will be used to bolt on the mount plus the notch at there back edge of the hinge... the cover (at your choice) can be trimed or left off all together... You wont be able to see the hinge from the sides or rear of the vehicle, only looking from under or over the hinge...
I will post when I get it done...
Mounting it to a door hinge bolt will mess with the door alignment, so I don't want to go there myself, I wanted ease of install...

It won't be expensive... I can make them up easy now that I have the exact measurements made up... but I don't have the exact figure yet... I will post when I do, that is fore certain...
I did not expect such a following on this... LOL...
So, Your going to building A skid plate setup I here... Let me know How it goes... and Post up some Pict's while your working on it... in progress shots... Good luck with it... I will probably be doing the same after some of my other projects are done...
