Magellan Triton 2000??

I just read where Magellan and Primordial for enhanced off-road use and mapping....it pretty much reads terrain and helps determine the best route to destination without trying to make you cross rivers, ravines, etc like in past....

The Magellan Triton has the new technology...and looking at 2000.

Article on Triton and new technology

Magellan Triton 2000

comments or experience with new technology would be appreciated...

Re: Magellan Triton 2000??

I don't have any direct experience, but from what little I have read they are not a finished product. I get the general reaction that they rushed the product and the software is buggy and unreliable. I've also heard some pretty bad reviews on Magellan customer service and their lack of communication w/ customers. I believe Garmin is a better route, maybe the new Colorado.

Re: Magellan Triton 2000??

I have an older Magellan, and I've gone to their headquarters in San Dimas. EschObfus is right. Their customer service is TERRIBLE. I went in their lobby to order a new windshield sucker mount since the one I had snapped agter just 6 weeks of use. I had to pay the full price of almost $50. And to top it off, the rep I spoke to was upstairs at their desk. They couldn't be bothered to come down stairs to take the order, or meet a customer. Shipping took over 6 weeks. Don't bother with a Magellan. Go for a Garmin. There's more support for Garmin, too.

Re: Magellan Triton 2000??

Too bad sounds like that software is the next thing especially for expedition hikers....as it will pick the best route taking into account terrain. Oh well.... thanks guys.
