Can you provide some more detail on getting the Fj onto the Kenwood? I have the Kenwood KNA-G510 that is the pretty much the same system, takes the SD card.
When you connect the laptop to the head unit, the head unit will ask what kind of connection you want to make. "Garmin" mode will only show you the folders on the head units internal memory and load the head unit as a single drive letter in Windows. "Mass Storage" mode will show you the folders on the head unit and the SD card so you will end up with two drive letters in Windows.
I used "Mass Storage" mode and I could see the "Vehicles" folder on the head unit. All I did was drop the FJ_blue_wv.srf file in the Vehicles folder and then I could see the FJ selection in the vehicles selection list.

Did you get the CD version of the 09 City Nav NT or the SD card version?
I was wondering if it was possible to get the CD version of the City Nav then put it on the SD card.
I have the DVD's and as mentioned in the other posts you have to compile all the maps make sure you have city nav 2009 unlocked for your head unit.
Using either the Garmin Mapsource or Maploader programs and load the data to the SD card. When you put the SD card in the head unit it will then load the maps. There are other posts that talk about unlocking and loading the maps so I'm not going to re-post it all. It will take you some research but it is all here.
I went to the Fj, hook the USB cable up.
Selected the "Mass Storage" on my Kenwood KNA-G510 (GPS add on).
Open up the Garmin Folder.
There where only two folders (Poi and Voice) And two other files (Fs_img.ver (Ver file) and gmapprom (IMG file), that is all in my Kenwood. NOTHING ELSE.
This was my first time hooking up a USB cable directly to this unit, I had done software updates and map updates VIA SD card with no problems before. I tried doing the vehicle folder through the SD card but zero luck.
And I had no luck adding vehicle through USB cable since I didn't see a vehicle folder.
My Nuvi had a ton of files and folders. I had zero problem fooling around with the Nuvi. Vehicle folder was in the Nuvi, had zero problems add and removing vehicles (due to small about of space), when these vehicle where first available.
I did extract a language (Thai) folder from the Nuvi and going to try and add that to the Kenwood. Will see if that works.
Any sugestion for adding Vehicle to the Kenwood (Garmin) KNA-G510 or hacking this thing?
I also wonder if Topo will work on this? Hate to spend the cash and not work.
I am going to pick up the 2009 update in a few days.

I have no experience with the KNA series so I can't tell you what is available. Another member tried to create the Vehicles folder on the 7100 folder and it did not work either. The 8120 may be the first head unit to have the newer Garmin format standard so I don't know if you can do it or not.
Re: Kenwood DNX 8120: Don't buy from Non-authorized dealer
Great information guys. I just wanted others to consider warranty when purchasing these pricey units. I just ordered mine, so this thread helped me, but I also learned some stuff during my shopping experience.
I was shopping online and noticed some great deals, but then I noticed that all the cheap ones ($1000 to $1100) had warranties from "hokey" (non-Kenwood) warranty companies. I checked on the Kenwood web site, and Kenwood will not warranty an item purchased from a non- authorized dealer, or an auction web site. Make sure than any car-audio place you buy from is an authorized Kenwood dealer: I found one down the street near my office that advertised Kenwood and had a moderately decent price, but it turns out they are not authorized to sell kenwood.
You can find authorized dealers, or E-tailers on the Kenwood web site. I found an unbelievable deal from authorized dealer 6ave.com (the coupon has since expired or I would post it here) but I got $498 off the price, with no sales tax and no shipping charges. Mine should ship out soon. FYI The Kenwood site lists only 5 authorized online dealers, so be cautious with any other dealers.
That is what is referred to as "Gray Market" items meaning there is no clear source as to where the product actually came from. Many manufacturers will not guarantee anything purchased from a gray market vendor.
Great advise and I would take it one step further to say don't buy anything from a grey market vendor. And not only because they are trying to protect their profits but many manufactures that have gone to China have found their products being marketed beyond existing markets. The problem is these "extra" production runs don't go through any quality assurance or other methods we use to protect the consumer.
About 15 - 20 seconds but if say you were listening to the radio when you turned it off it will play as soon as you turn it on. The mapping, graphics and display are what is being loaded.
That is just as fast as my partable Garmin GPS. I just got Pioneer 900BT and I can't get over long start ups. I'm gonna have to return it and consider Kenwood. I do mostly short trips and I need GPS to te operational ASAP.
Kenwood DNX 8120-Blackberry Bluetooth problem-Fix coming soon
I just had my 8120 installed yesterday. I'm an I.T. guy, and I spent 30 minutes trying to get my Blackberry phone working with the 8120 and finally succeeded, but then this morning it stopped working. My phone thinks it is paired and connected by the 8120 thinks it is disconnects.
I called Kenwood and they said there is a software update for the Blackberry phone issue that is complete, but they are working on creating a download link and instructions for loading the update.
They did not say whether this affects other phones or not, so this may only affect this phone.
