ScanGauge Installed on Left Side of Dash

I received my new (to me) ScanGauge II this week and installed it today. It was a pretty good fit on the left side of the dash, under the AC vent.

The ScanGauge supports a bunch of different display colors so I was able to get a good match to the orange on the center console of the FJ Cruiser.

I wanted a clean look, so I routed the connector cable underneath the ScanGauge in between two pieces of industrial velcro.

To get the cable down to the OBDII connector beneath the steering wheel, I drilled a 1/2" hole in the side of the silver trim piece and routed it through. The connector, which is similar to a CAT5 Ethernet connector, barely fit through the hole.

All told, the installation was about 25 minutes and I think turned out pretty well. The ScanGauge is clearly visible to me while driving but can't really be seen by someone driving alongside the FJ in a car.

Looks great (much better than where I had it - on the steering column). I'm glad you like it!!!

Re: ScanGauge Installed on Left Side of Dash

I am reserving that location for something else, but I really like your install. The hole you drilled looks factory, too! Good job!!

Thats exactly where mine is located although I ran the cable differently. I have my GPS mounted underneath that.

The ScanGauge II does three things:

- Trip computer, calculates distance-to-empty and keeps track of ave/max speed, driving time, MPG

- Digital gauges, shows real-time MPG, speed, RPMs, coolant temp, air intake temp, voltage, horsepower

- Scan tool, reads and clears trouble codes recorded by the vehicle's on-board diagnotic system (OBDII)

I haven't had to use the scan tool function yet (FJ is running trouble-free), but use the trip computer and real-time info (gauges) displays daily.

One of the best things about the ScanGauge is that you simply plug one cable into your vehicle's OBDII port. That's it -- no separate wiring of power, sensors or anything else. All of the info it displays is already being captured by built-in sensors on your vehicle; the ScanGauge simply formats the info and displays it in a user-friendly manner.

More info here: ScanGaugeII - Trip Computers + Digital Gauges + Scan Tool

Re: ScanGauge Installed on Left Side of Dash

I mounted mine on the rear view mirror. Attached to the mirror frame with 3M double side tape. I extended the ScanGuage II cable using a straight through RJ-45 coupler and a std. CAT5 network cable.
