Re: Buying A Gps System

I have the Nuvi 760 and it works great. I did download google mobile apps to my crackberry this past weekend and the google maps with gps works great plus its free. If you have a phone with gps this program is a necessity. I posted a link to it in the off topic section or you can just go to google on your phone and click "more" then download the mobile apps to your phone then you are on your way.

Re: Buying A Gps System

I have the TomTom One NE...no extra bells and whistles, just your basic GPSr. I have a 2 GB card loaded with the latest map and a host of POI's (some that I made myself). The One is inexpensive to own and operate and if you don't need/want all the 'bells and whistles' you'll be satisfied! Oh, and the only problem I've had in the 2 years that I own it is the 12V auto charger cord had to be replaced under warranty.

Re: Buying A Gps System

I have a c340 Street Pilot that I love....It needs to be updated but it is so friggin' easy to run. I have barely skimmed the instructions....Love it. I leave the suction mount on it and one tie wrap holds it above the mirror unless we are travelling and then we have a bean bag mount so my navigator can have it down so its easier to type in destiantions. That is my only complaint about having it overhead...It is tricky to type into.

For fans of Knight Rider, this comes complete with narration by William Daniels, voice of KITT from the original TV series.

Re: Buying A Gps System

I can't believe there are 24 posts and not a single off road unit!!!

First the Lowrance....

Then the laptop with offroad maps/airial photos...

Then the handheld....

Now these are all for exploring/off roading....if you need directions to the mall....see the first 24 posts....

Re: Buying A Gps System

Well lets see. I started with a Garmin 45 circa 1997, went to a Magellan - sold it 2 weeks later. Got a Garmin GPS III, sold it and replaced it with a Garmin GPS V, lost it off my snowmobile on Mount Baker replaced it with a Garmin GPSMap 60C, gave that one to my brother and got myself a Garmin GPSMap 60CSx.

I'm so Garmin that was my major deciding factor for my FJs on-board nav, the Kenwood DNX8120 /w Garmin navigation.

And for off road I have my laptop (/w DeLorme & MapSource) and a Garmin 18 "puck" but my Kenwood does pretty good now that I've loaded the Topo maps on it.

Garmin or go home. Yep, couldn't agree more.

Re: Buying A Gps System

I saw a new Garmin unit that was for Offroad. I want to say that it was maybe a 700 series and it had topo for off road adventures. My assistant got a 200 series but it was for urban stuff.
