Dennis, no comment on the Zumo vs. Magellan, but FYI I have a RAM mount on my handlebars (just left of the handlebar clamp cover) for my Nuvi 660 and it is relatively well protected by the fairing and windscreen. If it was just pouring rain in buckets I guess I would put a baggie over the top of it but it hasn't been a problem yet. If you want, I'll mount it and take a picture of it. The RAM mount works great and is adjustable.
I've got a RAM mount on mine, too (same location, left side handlebar, easily accessible with the non-throttle hand). I kept the RAM mounting hardware off of the old Road Glide to use with my new one. And, yeah, I'll have to come up with a 'GPS condom' for when it rains, I guess...

I have a Garmin NUVI 5000 and it is great and easy to use. I got it at
J & R.com for $399. They are listed for $699 at Best Buy and $599 at Garmin. I mounted mine to the rear view mirror. The NUVI 5000 also has a video input port for say a rear view camera. NUVI 5000 Mirror Mount with Instructions & Pic's

2008 Titanium: The Silver Fox: Fierce light bar; PIAA 520i fogs; PIAA 520SMRs; PIAA 1500backup lights; Aries powder black bull guard; Real Wheels bush guard; Bug deflector; OEM roof rack, hitch, & tire cover; Toyota OEM running boards; NUVI 5000; XM satellite radio with Trek Marine antena; Sanyo CCA-BC200 rearview camera; Maplight Mod; Manik Tailight Covers.
Sorry to "Double Dip" on this thread but the NUVI 5000 has several features that make it very useful on and off the road. First, the screen is large for this half blind 51 year old guy, 5.25 inches I think. Second it can download whatever topo maps you want or you can plug in an SD card for maps, music, games, etc. Garmin sells a topo map kit for about $79 on an SD card. But there are plenty of free sites for maps. US Forest Service for one. It has an FM transmitter and can receive traffic updates (requires subscription). And I have already said, a video input. No blueTooth however.
Price may be an issue but J&R.com has them for $399. I still can't see but I'm not lost nor directionally impaired, but that's my opinion; my wife's may differ!

I'm a Garmin guy as well, I have a Streetpilot I5, old school, tiny screen. But it has replaceable batteries and is the size of a baseball for hiking. I'm probaly going to move up to a 205 of 255 wide screen for the FJ though.
I did some more research on the Magellan 1412, and even at $147 it's not a bargain (has some problems with random shutdowns, and mis-routing).
So, I'm gonna stick with tried and true Garmin, and go for a Nuvi 205W. That model's just a plain ol' reliable GPS, no bells and whistles (which I don't care for anyhow). Plus, can load custom POI's and different maps later (if I wish). I can find Nuvi 205W's all day long for around the $150 price range. I also still have my Garmin software to communicate with the GPS, so can leverage that, too.
So, shopping problem solved! Go Garmin, or go home, IMO...

Black Friday: Walmart will have the Garmin nuvi 200 for $97 (here in Utah).
Costco.com right now has the Garmin nuvi 750 for $199 after a Benjamin off.........

I have a Garmin 760 w/a topo map SD card. Works great, no complaints
