will be more leverage at wok against the
spring, and if on top, there will be less
leverage against the spring...

so, put the spring on the bottom? that is what we want, right?

Putting the spring on first(bottom) and then the
disconnect will allow you to attach a second item
(ie flag pole, road wip antenna, etc) and to be
able to utilize the same spring for either... Or you
could put the disconnect in first, this way when
you do remove it, there is nothing left mounted to
your Fj but the disconnect stub... It's really a
preference thing, depending on ones use...
nope... perfectly clear... i was thinking there really wasn't any particular order, but was thinking about what to take with me and what i'd leave on the cruiser...
Trying to figure what parts are a must have...... Why the quick disconnect and the spring? Doesn't the quick disconnect make it easier to be stolen? Isn't the antenna flexible without the spring? I guess I could see switching between a 2' trail lenght antenna and maybe a 4' highway antenna..??????? But again, just keep a wrench to change antenna's when needed. Removing antenna for auto car washing?????
...well, the spring just keeps it flexible... the whip is flexible, but the spring is just SUPER flexible...
but the quick release is so you will take it off and throw it in the back of the rig to KEEP it from getting stolen...
i've decided, to put in this order:
female quick release, part (screws into antenna cable adapter)
male quick release, part
large dual female receiver bolt, part
spring, part
antenna...
so, i can take the most important stuff with me, AND if someone wanted to steal the base, it does them no good on it's own... i can always bolt it down, but then it has to stay on, and while it's not likely to be stolen, the antenna isn't cheap!

Quick release works both ways, easy to steal, easy to take off so it doesn't get stolen. No, the antenna isn't what I would call "flexible", nothing I wold want to be banging into tree limbs and such. The spring helps reduce any damage from low heights.
I think that the parts list at the beginning of this thread is very comprehensive and a "minimum" list for a reliable off-road setup...
