Re: Cobra 75 WXST and Bandi Mount Install

I'm getting reading of just above 2 on the SWR meter. Does this sound like a grounding issue or "tuning the antenna" issue?

(I have the 3ft Firestik antenna and on the back of the package it says that its tunable. I think by turning the tip on top....)

Probably grounding. What are your readings on channels 1, 19, 40?

Re: Cobra 75 WXST and Bandi Mount Install

Sounds like tuning or needing to find a better ground plain.

Re: Cobra 75 WXST and Bandi Mount Install

Is the squelch supposed to be set at max or min?

But regardless, I am still getting pretty bad SWRs (I tried with max and min squelch). On channel 1 I was getting above 2 and on Channel 40 I was getting 1.75.

On channel 20 I was getting about 3!

Then I went out and turned the little tip on the antenna all the way to the top. This made it worse as my SWR readings jumped up about 1.

Any suggestions?

Re: Cobra 75 WXST and Bandi Mount Install

Small adjustments on the antenna are best.

Squelch is to block out the static in the background. It has nothing to do with your SWR's.

If your in the city and there is a lot of interference then you turn the Squelch up to block the "noise". If your in a good area with little static, turn the Squelch down so you can hear further.

Re: Cobra 75 WXST and Bandi Mount Install

Quick install question: I am putting most of my "Bandi mount" stuff together today.... Did anyone use any LocTite (or any other brand) of thread compound between the quick-release/stud, quick-release/spring, or spring/antenna? It just as a thought to me it might hold it secure....but it might also affect SWR.........

Thoughts?
