I have a quick question for you in the know!

I installed my Cobra CB the other night. Ready for the Summit. It turns out that the 3 foot Firestik is about 2-3 inches too tall for my garage.

Can I use the antenna without the heavy duty spring? or is that not recommended? If I do, I am assuming I would need to tune the radio again right?

Thanks for your help.
Yep, you can run it without the spring. I know several people who do, and have no issues. The spring just helps relieve the stress from the fiberglass antenna when you hit things (tree limbs, overhangs, the ceiling on the car ferry. ) Rather than the antenna bending (and possibly breaking), the spring will. You will need to retune when you remove the spring since you are essentially changing the antenna length.

Re: Cobra 75 WXST and Bandi Mount Install

I just plan on removing antennae when not wheeling and storing it safely...leaving quick release and heavy spring installed..... I dont need to talk to truckers on my way to work.

Re: Cobra 75 WXST and Bandi Mount Install

I just leave mine on and let it hit whatever it hits. I know, bad idea. Nothing like being on the ferry and hearing *THWACK THWACK THWACK THWACK* as it hits every single beam when you pull on or off.

If I'm really worried about it, like at the airport, I'll take the antenna off and throw it in the back and leave the spring and QD on the Bandi mount.

Re: Cobra 75 WXST and Bandi Mount Install

3-5 miles depending upon the surroundings, it will be less than that in the city and in the hills.
