Re: Kenwood DNX5120. Got it? Happy? Or should I go 7120?

The boot time on the 7120 is a little slow, it takes about 15-20 seconds before I have full control when starting up. A little longer to begin DVD playback. If I left off on the iPhone, it's playing the last song in 10 seconds or less. It just takes a while to initialize the Garmin NAV interface.

I have a Garmin Nuvi and it takes about 30 seconds to boot. So, I'd imagine it's going to be similar with these head units.

Anyways, I think I am going to do the 5120. It's such a good price at AMAZON.

Anyone know of a better place to purchase?

Also, anyone know of a place to get the harness and trim/adapter plate?
I got a 512 (same but without nav). I'm very haapy with mine. Got it from sonicelectronix for $400. They have the 5120 for $600 +s&h and you get a free wiring harness and trim/adapter plate. 7120 is $870 +s&h at sonicelectronix

Some key differences between the 7120 and 5120:
5120 does not come with remote (must be purchased seperately), 7120 does
5120 has 6.1" screen w/ external volume knob, cd loading, cd eject, source, nav, function buttons, while 7120 has 6.95" screen and all touch screen controls
5120 does not have rear speaker rca output (must choose between rear or sub in menu), 7120 has front, rear, and sub
Both have 2volt preamp
5120 does not allow audio playback during navigation (I think), 7120 does (I think)
5120 has front 3.5mm aux jack, 7120 has none
Both have usb input and av input in rear of unit
5120 has built in low pass crossover in sub rca outut, 7120 does not

Ebay has it for about $500 with shipping.
Crutchfield has it for $1000 with free adaptors, trim plate, customer support.

I think the install would be the same for both units. I'd get the 5120 for the price and lack of other unneccessary features.

Minor correction -- the 5120 does allow audio/music playback (tuner, satellite, iPod, etc.) during navigation. It even lowers the music volume to the front speakers when a turn-by-turn nav instruction is spoken by the system.

Great. thanks for clarification. I wasn' box sure if I was gonna cough up the $250 for the nav box to add to my 512 if it didn't.

Re: Kenwood DNX5120. Got it? Happy? Or should I go 7120?

So to clarify, I have the fjammer setup with the sub. If I went with the 5120 I would have to choose between the rear speakers or the sub. But with the 7120 I could run the whole system.

No, the stock sub gets the signal from the rear speaker cables si if you just replace the HU you will be fine. It'll get complicated if you want to run all your speakers and aftermarket sub through an external amp.

Let me know if I did not make it too clear.
