door speaker replacement

This is my first thread other than my newb welcome so I apologize if it isn't perfect. That being said last night I decided to black-out my front bezel, mirrors and handles. I figure since there are a million write ups on how to do that I don't need to go into detail. This was my first time ever painting anything on a vehicle I'm ecstatic about the outcome! I already was asked about where I had it done by a fellow fj'er here in Lawrence, best thing about it was I said I did it myself or that it hasn't even been 24 hours yet! I know this is stereo/electronics section but I only brought this up because when I had my door panels off I noticed my new Infinity Kappa 6x9s where barely hanging on. So I ran to home depot and bought a 5x7 1/4 inch sheet of MDF, a pack of 1/4 inch # 14 hex bolts and a pack of 3/8 inch wood screws. I began by tracing that huge hunk of plastic onto my sheet of MDF. I then cut it out with my jigsaw and cut out the hole for the speaker and wala! A cheap speaker mount that works perfect and enhanced the sound!

Blacked out front bezel:

Here is a picture of speaker mount with exposed wiring:

With speaker installed:

Hope this helps anyone wanting to replace speakers without wanting to buy expensive aftermarket speaker mounts.

Re: door speaker replacement

I did mine inside the door (where the speaker sits) and then just around the speaker area. I would like to do the whole door, but that stuff isn't cheap.

Dyna mat is a self adhesive, rubberized sound deadener. It is made specifically for cars. My doors rattled like crazy when I replaced my speakers, dynamat solved that problem nicely. You can buy it at any car audio shop, or places like best buy in the car audio department.
