avic z 1 rca problem

I am a master installer and i want to share something about the z1 that have not seen posted. A few years back pioneer changer the power supply in their pre amp section. im sure many of you have plugged up a sub amp and a mid and highs amp and heard god awful engine noise out of your system. well this same power supply is in the z1. i was hoping they were going to change it.But it has not happened yet. Basically fi you unplug and plug rcas into the unit with it powered on it burns the ground outputs on the preamp section. but i have seen this happen without the unit on also. there is a simple fix . it seems to only happen when the sub output is used. the simple fix is grnd the ground shield on the rca to the back of the unit. you can ususaly get by with just doing the sub output because all the grounds are common on the inside of the unit.basically strip the rca plastic coating back down to ground shield and solder a wire on the ground shield of rca and then attach the wire to a point on the back of the unit. make sure you do this with the rcas unplugged from the unit. this always solves the problem. i have been seeing this for a couple to 3 of years now. And was hoping the z1 was different but it is not. this does not happen everytime. but i have seen it on the last 3 i have installed. if you have this problem in your ride and you have any pioneer head unit made in the last 3 years . give this a try. you can email me at tech12volt@yahoo.com if you need help.

Re: avic z 1 rca problem

I'm still unclear exactly where to solder the new ground wire. Do I solder it to the outside of the connector or.... to the ground wire in the cable. Any chance of a picture?
