Re: Sirius Satellite Radio "No Sell" Until After Christmas

Just got back from the dealer installing Sirius today on my FJ. I bought it on Saturday, and they said they had to order the parts, so they got them in a few days.

The antenna is mounted on the front of the roof on the passenger side.

Now to start saving $$ to buy speaker upgrades

Re: Sirius Satellite Radio "No Sell" Until After Christmas

1. purchase aftermarket good quality HU for less than $200 that runs sat radio. At high buck retailer like crutchfield, it will run you $300 or so for deck and sat radio hookup.

2. uninstall fjammer or stock stereo

3. install aftermarket stereo, sat radio. Be happy. Better sound than stock or fjammer. better interface that stock or fjammer.

4. sell fjammer for $200-300. don't need to buy fit kit and sirius for fjammer, which is $150-200 benefit.

so, let's get this right...you actually come out ahead financially and audio quality, and you don't have to wait till 2007 to get it.

Believe me, I understand wanting to keep stock and stealth. But the fjammer is a POS. Throw even a mid-level dual, panasonic or clarion deck on it with the stock speakers, and you will be amazed a the difference. spend another $50 on admittedly lower level pyle or similar speakers, and you will be even more amazed.

run, run, run to sell the fjammer. sometimes, you've just got to acknowledge the deficiencies, acknowledge that toyota's 'premium' sound is crud, and move on.

Re: Sirius Satellite Radio "No Sell" Until After Christmas

I had Sirius installed free from the dealer... into the FJammer... worked great for a few days...

Now? The factory presets keep losing memory, and when I turn on the vehicle, I always start at channel 184. For me to get down to channel 61 takes some doing. I'll be bringing it back to the dealer this comming week.

Re: Sirius Satellite Radio "No Sell" Until After Christmas

Even at TRDSource's discounted price, I thought the Sirius and XM kits
were just insanely overpriced. Especially in a world where both companies
are 'kicking' money into the hardware market to make the cost of entry
low and sew up the subscriptions.

Add a dose of problems, plus a certain feeling that the FJAmmer takes up
a WHOLE lot of space for the function it provides, and yeah, a whole head
replacement looks pretty good.

Not only that, maybe, just MAYBE the replacement unit wouldn't
go from dim to inivisible when I do something 'exotic' like, oh, drive
my FJ with polarized sunglasses on. If I tilt my head 90 degrees...I
can tune the radio.

Re: Sirius Satellite Radio "No Sell" Until After Christmas

toyandgadget guy - 184 is the default hook up station on sirius. I've installed 3 or 4 sirius devices in the last year, and it always is the channel they ask you tune to so they can 'detect' your unit and activate it. I believe it is the weather station.

As well, every sirius unit I've had turns to 184 on initial boot up/start up. Once you activate, it remembers your last station when you turn it on.

Given this, making an educated guess, I'd say your unit is going back to default upon every startup. Since you have already activated the unit, it searches for coverage, finds it, and and tunes in to 184.

Sounds like the sirius unit is bad. Take it back if you can't live with it (and believe me, that would annoy me).

The 'no see display' happens with a lot of less expensive (okay, I was being nice...CHEAPER) displays. On the $200 alpine I got, it is still an issue. For $150 more, I could cure the problem (apline's 'bio-lite' display), but it wasn't worth it to me. I may regret it, only time will tell.

I looked at alpine, kenwood, pioneer, sony, clarion, eclipse, jvc, panasonice, dual, and few others. The sub $250 deck category has no display I could find that didn't have the 'no see display' issue.

If you've got the dough, the big 4 (alpine, kenwood, pioneer and sony) all have decks in the $350 range with improved displays.

My brother-in-law's double din pioneer dvd and good buddies double din eclipse dvd have screens that I can catch about 160 or 170 degrees out. no display issues there. But i don't have $500, much less $1500, to spend on those decks.

Or, as my smart allec wife tells me, take off the 'joe cool' shades and you won't have any issue. oh, she has so much to learn!

Re: Sirius Satellite Radio "No Sell" Until After Christmas

If you are looking for an aftermarket option, we have a deal from Kenwood right now for a free Sirius tuner ($100) value with select Kenwood radios till the end of the month.

Still working on the direct connect solution, but those looking for a reasonable aftermarket solution, Kenwood as a nice deal going

Call us for more details.

Talking Sirius is Available for the FJ!!

I just picked mine up today. The parts department At Scott Toyota in Scottsdale AZ got the reciever foir me 3 months ago when I bought the FJ. The install kit hasn't been available till this week. I checked again on 10/27 and they were showing the part available at this time. One was overnighted to the Dealer. The service department argued that it can't be the right part because it wasnt in there service database yet. I bougtht it reguardless with the understanding that If it didnt work I could just return it. There was alot of confusion at the dealership. The XM kit calls for the Reciever to be installed in the rear in the panel behind where the subwoofer is. The Sirius kit has no installation instructions available yet but the harness that links the Sirius reciever to the FJammer Head piece is only about 3 feet long (not long enough for the rear instalation) That alone threw the service department for a loop. I took the kit home and installed it myself. The harness was plenty long to install the reciever behind the passanger side kick panel. It took me less then an hour to do the entire install and it works perfectly.
DONT LET THEM TELL YOU ITS NOT AVAILABLE YET.
HERE ARE THE TOYOTA PART NUMBERS: BOTH ARE READILY AVAILABLE

SIRIUS RECIEVER: PTS31-00052
FJ CRUISER FIT KIT: PTS31-35070

The fit kit includes the mounting bracket, wire harness, antenna and some misc. nuts, tape and plastic parts.

Richie at the parts counter is very helpful and now very familiar with these parts. Heres the number for Scott Toyota if you want more info
