Sirius Satellite Radio "No Sell" Until After Christmas
Well, I am still trying to get the final word on the Sirius satellite radio add-on. I checked with the parts department at my local dealer, and we ordered the Sirius receiver and the appropriate fit kit.
The receiver module arrived in good order, however the parts manager tells me the fit kit is on the "do not sell" list until after Christmas. The fit kit is on hold? What in the world?
The whole thing with XM and Sirius has me totally perplexed. I am so confused and so skeptical about Toyota being able to solve the radio problems that I am probably going to jerk the thing out and put in some aftermarket gear. This of course means that I will proceed with my video monitors, alarm, touchscreen, etc.
Basically I get to empty my wallet out. Thanks a lot ....
Re: Sirius Satellite Radio "No Sell" Until After Christmas
what exactly is this fit kit and what does it do?
my last in dash unit in my highlander was a clarion with siruis, and the sirius brain was a small 6"x8" aluminium box that was screwed into the firewall behind the glove box.
can someone enlighten me on this elusive fit kit?

Re: Sirius Satellite Radio "No Sell" Until After Christmas
I don't know the great mystery of the fit kit. From reading and resarch, it is my understanding that the receiver mounts inside the rear cargo compartment around the wheel well. With the antenna mounting on the front of the FJ, there seems to be a lot of non-sensical wire running from front to back and then back to front. Tons of labor intaking out all of the trim pieces.
The dealer wasn't kidding that the installation takes all day, and possibly a day and a half until the techs get the hang of it.
Seems to me that there would be a place for the receiver to be mounted, maybe inside one of the center console areas.
That may be very be the reason they put the fit kit on hold, so they can figure out a better way to do it. This of course is assuming that they actually do have the problems with the head unit reliably repaired.

Four hours for me and the wife to install XM, and I am slow and deliberate. I can't imagine the Sirius taking longer. If a tech is taking a day or longer they aren't making any money.
The main part of the fit kit is the wire harness that runs from the receiver to the head unit. Other than the metal bracket to mount the reciever and the antenna, not much other than a few hard ware parts. No idea why there is a problem with Sirius and not XM for the fit kit.

OO7 - I got the exact same story from my dealer as well, just to let you know at least that much is the same from the dealer. I am not as knowledable as those who have already spoken, but I thought you might want to know I got the same story and am very confused as well.

This is really a joke. Pay that kind of money and they are selling something they don't know if it will work right. Talk to five dealers or audio guys and get five different stories. And stories they are. You should be mad at your dealer for selling you the receiver module. Stay on top of them and let them make it right.

Sirius is installed in mine from the stealership. Came with the FJammer, and the Sirius module... 9 months programming, too... antenna is on the rear roof deck... probably going to bring it to the front, though.
