Re: ? Backup Cameras?

^ i have it on the same location. I think mounting on the roof will impair vision. going downward on a curb will impair visibiliy of low profile cars.

my stupid shop did not install a night vision camera, like I've told them to (reapeated myself about 8 times). I think installing a few cameras would be cool. i have it 'bypassed' so i can click it on, while driving.

Re: ? Backup Cameras?

Ever since I got the FJ with all its quirky blind spots and poor rear visibility it was a matter of time. I recently installed a Pioneer Avic D3 and added the back up camera. A forum vendor ran a promotion on the Avics that I couldn't pass up. The camera is wired directly to the headunit and comes on automatically when vehicle is in reverse mode. I can also be in drive position and watch the monitor for any cars, pedestrians or traffic behind me. I mounted my camera in the spare wheel recess area underneath the metal "roof"--I feel this gives it added protection.

As for night visibility, I've enhanced the lighting by adding SwissArmySuv's recessed fog lights in the rear bumper wings. The rear fogs come on in reverse mode along with the camera, light output is bright and a definite improvement on screen. In case I don't want to blind anyone, I have the rear fogs on a switch and can easily turn them off.

I'm real happy about the added visibility with the back up camera!

I have the license plate kind cost around $150 beans. Definately worth it.
