5AT four wheel drive

With my old explorer I was told never use 4 wheel drive on dry pavement.does this apply to the automatic FJ .I know my wife will end up forgetting to take it out of 4 wheel drive,can it cause any damage?

I've always heard to not use it on dry pavement. Why? No clue.

It does put undue stress on the drivetrain in a AT it does split power 50/50. Where in a MT all-wheel drive it splits the power between front and rear. So yes you should not use 4x4 on dry pavement. Such the same as lifting a vehicle will cause stress to the drive train. 8k for a tranny in a LR, Drive shafts, CV joints will attest to that one.

I'm off to a good start,posting in the wrong section and not using the search engine, thanks Big Daddy,I would of been flamed for that on a couple of M/C forums I use
