SoCal,Thanks for the link,it been a long time since I read Thiel/Small parameters,we used them wth a calculator in the early 80's,later a programn called Macspeakerz, and the list goes on and on ,always liked the mac program it was so slow I could have a beer while it crunched numbers
Well I just got home from getting my truck back. It is rather dark out, the pics don't look so good, so I will get some up in the daylight. The single din looks rather small in that big hole in the dash. We had to order a single din mount kit, should be here in 3-4 days. Alpine rocks... I have two 12" type -R subs run by the MRD-M1005 amp. It makes the back of the roof flex up and down. I see dynamat in my future. Also the MB quartz 3" run by the amp do a good job. I put the alpine 6x9" s in the doors, with the taco tunes brackets. I used the 4" kenwood excelon speakers in the dash. All six speakers are run by a Kenwood excelon 4 ch. amp I cant remember the model number, but it is rated a 4x 88w r.m.s. It is good clean power, and I don't have it turned up all the way. ( Both amps went under the seats ) I didn't put the bass blockers on the 4" dash speakers, but I will have to because they are catching too much bass frequency. In the xB I had them on deck power, and I may do this again, there is entirely too much treble coming from the doors/dash together. But with a few changes and some adjustments, it should be pretty close to what I want, although not quite the Ultimate FJ stereo, mine is pretty damn loud. stay tuned for pics.
trainman, if you are happy with the sound, who gives a shiznit. just be patient...with a newer car, the fit kits and aux parts are often slow to come. In a year or two, most of us will kick ourselves to some extent about how much we paid for this or that when they came out 'new' and we just had to have them. no reason you can spend $20 on a scosche or metra kit now, and just weather the storm until more are produced. I'd bet within a year, kits will be out there with trims that match the 5 colors and/or perforated dash appearance.

ah man, I think I remember using that program! Was that on the old school macintosh's that had the double disk drives side by side in the front of the cpu? I was just thinking about my old apple IIe the other day.
And yes, it was slow, but those processors are probably a 10th of the speed of those that we have in our cell phones now....a simple logrithm would bog them down....
Yeah , so far the sound is good and I only have to tolerate the hole for a few days. After listening to it again this morning, blasting the interstate with bass at 5:00 am I think I will defintely put the 4" dash speakers back on deck power, with the bass blockers. I was talking with my friend who did the install and he said that the 4ch can be turned down a bit, as the gain is now set at about half power. this should give more volume range to keep up with the subs, and take some of the ear cracking treble down some. It is up under the seat so any adjustments require unbolting the seat and tilting it back, cause that kenwood amp is rather large, and we turned it so the cooling fan would not be blocked. The alpine is small enough that I can get to it just by sliding the seat forward. Sorry no pics today, I had to go to work at 5:15 am, and it was still dark, so i will get them up as soon as I get back home.

Trainman ,if you wire the dash tweeters out of phase it should quiet them down a bit
Here are the pics, i tried to post them on here but they were too small. a couple of things to notice, yes I am still waiting on my single din mount kit. the excelon 4ch is under the drivers seat, the alpine sub amp is under the passenger seat. The map light in the cigarrette lighter is a mudt have. GET YOURSELF ONE OF THESE. You will see a small distrubition block, it is under the pocket in the console where you transfer case shifter sticks out of, next to cup holder. Also you will see the speedloom on the 4ch, and in the dash. You have all kinds of room in the dash for the necessary wires. Also, the remote is the only way to go, once you have one, you won't go without one again.! You will see a streamlight bracket mounted on the back of my center console, it is in the way when the seats get folded down. First time I flipped the seats down was after we mounted the charger - and we were running speaker wire to the subs. oops I took some pics of the seats in their normal position so you can see how well the amps are hidden, and you can't see them when you peek into the windows. Once I get the cargo cover put in and all that crap needed to fill in the factory sub holes it will be hard to tell anything but a new head unit is in the vehicle. Well, I can say that except for tuning the eq on the deck ( I am no audiophile, and this deck is a audiophile's wet dream - and my christmas present last year ) which is like a sound board for a concert and some minor wiring setup and changes plus a mount kit --- I am very happy with the way this system is working. it is not over the top, but certainly not bottom of the barrel either. It is super clean, and I have the bass level that I have always wanted. plus I can take the sub box out when I need the space, and I will still have a great stereo to listen to. I didn't take pics of the factory speaker replacements but everything has been changed out. 4" kenwoods in dash, 3" MB quartz in the D pillar, alpine 6x9" in the doors. bye.
Thanks for the pics. Dude your set-up looks awesome and I am sure that it sounds just as good as it looks.
One thing that I have really been thinking about and maybe you and others have an opinion on this. I have my Alpine MRP-F200 4ch amp under the passenger seat and all I keep thinking about is water getting to it from raining or dust and dirt getting into the amp and screwing it up. Any thoughts??
I took a long hard look today at what I could do to mount this amp in the cargo area on the drivers' side across from where the factory sub would go. I am probably going to put something together this week. If it looks like it will work I will post pics and see if anyone else wants the specs. The good thing about this amp is that it is small (10X10X2 I think) so it will fit where I want it to go.
BTW, I am old school when it comes to this stuff. What is the point of the distribution block and ground block? Can't I just run my power wires for my 2 amps straight to the battery and ground them to the chassis?
Amp under seat and weather proofing - yes, it is a concern, but you are your own arbiter of that. the good news is that you have a ridge in the front of both seats that will act as a dam of sort.
Ground and distribution blocks - really exist for ease. The theory is that you run a line back from the battery (+ or -) to the distribution block, and then distribute to your sources from there. If you got only one source (i.e. one amp) you probably don't need it. Basically, it acts as a splitter from the main line. With respect to the + distribution block, it can also act as a fuse distribution line as well.
I usually just grab a negative block from home depot for $4 or so, and then grab a nice phoenix gold or similar (for about $8) to distribute the positive line. It is worth the price to have a solid distribution point and for ease of use.
